Don't know either, really nice car though.

You might try putting more info in the post title to get more folks to click on it.

Saxon,

Welcome also. Great 911. There isn’t any here or there on Pelican; it is a worldwide community.

There are people (companies) that specialize in DMV VIN searches, etc. A little Googling will turn up someone in AZ. An AZ Pelican should have an easy time stopping by a DMV office and does a title search. Usually these cost a few quid. Some states provide this on-line – Arizona does. Go HERE

You can do this on-line and pay the fee by Visa, etc.

Saxon although your chassis number confirms it's a 911T the engine number according to my spec. book is an E. See if you can find 911/01 stamped on the engine as well.

The engine number is for a ‘70 911T
6109121
6 = 6 cylinder unit
1 = T (this digit would be a “2” if it were an E)
0 = 1970
9121 = sequential number

The type number for a T is 911/03 and an E is 911/01.

The problem is the VIN.
I think you posted one too many “1”s
Is the correct VIN 9110101670?

Best,
Grady

Hi Grady , you're right about 1=T and 2=E but the numbers are part of the chassis no. not the engine no. as the pics show unless this book is completely wrong which I doubt as it's highly regarded. I do need knew glasses though so forgive me if I reading it wrong but the numbers don't correspond with the the pages I've posted. The book is 'Porsche 911 Red Book', Patrick Paternie.

Good exercise. I think that is an error in the book you are using.
What is the title and edition? See if they gave an e-mail
address for corrections and send them this discussion. That
is a pretty significant error for an “authoritive” book.

My two sources are:
Porsche Technical Specifications 4210.20 IV/73 (Spec Book)
and
Porsche Technical Information supplements dated Sept. 17, 1970.

For this exercise I’m going to put some delimiters (.) in the
numbers for clarity. Porsche doesn’t do this.

The first image is p. 6-7 of the Spec Book. Boxed in yellow is his
engine number (610.9121) range 610.8501 – 610.9955.

This is for a type 911/07 which is a ’70 2.2T USA (blue box).

Boxed in green is his assumed chassis number (VIN = 911.010.1670)
range 911.010.0001 – 911.010.2418.
"
"
(C) Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche A.G.

Next is the Spec Book p. 8-9. It is self explanatory

Chassis Numbering Code (VIN)
911.010.1670 is the required ten digits for 1970.
911 = Type 911 group
0 = Model year 1970
1 = Engine type T
0 = Body version Porsche coupe
1670 = Sequential number

610.9121 has the required seven digits.
6 = Engine designation, 6 cylinder unit.
1 = Engine type T.
0 = Model year 1970
9121 = Sequential number.

"
"
(C) Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche A.G.

These are original Porsche Technical Information supplements
for the 1971 model year dated 9/17/70. I have the ’70 version
around here somewhere but I used this to confirm the
numbering system.

Here is your reference. I can see what you saw. First the 911/07
engine number range is incorrect (red box). I think the range
should be as above. The first error is compounded by the
second error (purple box) where the “1” should be a “2”. I
didn’t check anything else.

I’m not picking on this reference, even the Porsche Factory
publications sometimes have errors. The goal is to get them
corrected and not become erroneous “fact”.

Best,
Grady

Well seeing that Grady (never seen it before) you must be right, I'll contact the author through his publishers and see what he makes of it. In his acknowledgements he worked with two people from A.G. and Porsche Cars North America, the publishers are Motor Books International. Makes you wonder what else is wrong in there! I won't be quoting it as an authorititive tome henceforth.

Thanks for all the kind comments and information i'ts very appreciated, guy's your right one two many digits in the vin number i wish it were an E engine but then again the numbers wouldn't match i'm gald they do.

I've had the car for about 3 years now i never get bored of it or looking at it, i try to go to some of the meeting we have over here
in England as much as possible it's all ways a pleasure to see classic Porsche and to meet good people as well.

Regards saxon.
