Speedometer and Odometer question

Is it possible for the speedometer to read incorrectly and still have the Odometer reading correctly.

Thank You

Mark

Yep. They run off separate mechanisms. I would suggest this is the rule as opposed to the exception on most 911's.

Mark,
Thats a great question. If the odo works right, why are most speedo's optomistic by 10%. Is this one of those marketing decisions?
How does the odo get it's signal? Maybe my Carrera has less mileage than it shows.

The "optimism"is built in at the factory for the speed reading. However the odometer is geared to be accurate off the signal. This is not limited to Porsche. Many manufacturers do the same thing.

Thanks for the information. It is nice to know that the milage is correct on the car. Now all I have to do is have the speedo fixed so I don't have to explain to the girl friend that I am not realy going that fast.

Thanks again
Mark
