QUESTION?

I HAVE A 76 911S WITH A 74 2.7L.
QUESTION.....THERE IS THIS TUBE THAT GOES FROM THE OIL TANK FILLER TO THE SIDE OF THE AIR BOX, AND ITS TEARED....IS THIS A PROBLEM?
THE OTHER DAY I OVER FILLED THE OIL TANK AND THERE WAS OIL INSIDE MY AIRBOX, WITCH I THINK
IT CAME FROM THIS SAME TUBE, IS THIS NORMAL?
TKS...

The hose that you are talking about is the oil overflow hose...when you over-filled your oil tank, it passed the excess oil through this hose and into your air-box...in the process it probably soaked your air filter with that very same oil, which could very well cause you some of the problems of "rough" running right now...i assume, however, that this wasn't the only thing that caused your rough engine behavior...right?

tks till....yes the "rough" was there before....what i noticed is that every time my car sits for a while and then I start the car again it runs rough. Even if I stop the car for 2 or 3 hours.
by the way IŽll check my air filter.

Well, Till is partly right. The tube you are talking about is not an overflow it is a vent line for the fumes from the oil tank to route them to the intake to be burned in the cylinders rather than spew them out into the air we breath.

DO NOT fill your oil tank up to the TOP mark - this will guarantee you a smoking engine because the oil when warmed will expand and overflow into the airbox.

There ia a small hole in the floor of the airbox that lets excess oil drain through a tube that dribbles it out on the ground. You will see oil spots on the floor on the pass side where the engine is attached to the trans. I guess it's OK to drool on the ground but not into the air !

Do the following :

Fill your oil to a line mid way between the full and "add" mark and keep it there. Put a mark on the dipstick to remind you where the new full is.

Clean the oil out of your airbox with a rag (the filter should be OK - the air is on the way to the engine intake not the filter after it passes the oil)

Remove the tube that is between the oil fill tube and the airbox and clean it out.

Where the tube fits into the airbox there is a brass "filter" that fits into the hole where the tube goes - remove it and clean it out completely with solvent to remove all of the accumulated oil.

Put it all back together and go drive you new toy.

If you have any questions - email me.
