serious 930 problems (leaking and running hot)

hey guys, on my 79 930 the temp ALWAYS gets up to the line before the red (10 o clock) Sometimes during the day it creeps up to the red and I have to pull over and let it rest. I have had the car for a few months and the car has always ran this way. I just thought it was normal to get to the 10 o clock position, as long as it wasnt getting into the red. My oil cooler is in the front fender with no fan. I have made it in my front bumper where I have DIRECT air running to it, but that doesn't seem to make a diff. I traced to lines back and they aren't crushed. What could make it run so hot? My next problem just occured. Since thursday my car has been leaking oil, only when it gets hot. I can start the car and romp on it, boosting it to full 1 bar a few times and there is NO LEAKS. When it gets to the 10 o clock position it starts leaking bad and dripping on the headers making it smoke like crazy. I checked the oil line running from oil filler and sealed it, I checked the oil pressure unit and tighten it up as much as possible. Funny thing is if I drive it and leave it in the garage over night there won't be any oil leaks. Im confused on what could cause this. I see a good amount of oil if I look under the intercooler where the throttle linkage is. It almost looks like its coming up from the intake manifold(?) I know its leaking at the top of the engine and falling to the bottom. Are there any oil lines behind the CIS system that that could leak? As long as the temp stays down I can run full boost and it doesn't leak or smoke. There is absolutely no smoke coming from the exhaust, just the headers when oil falls on them. I dont have the stock airbox and just an oil filter on the hose and it's not overfilled. Also when it starts leaking the temp gauge rises really quick about 20 degrees. Can someone PLEASE give me some insight on what could cause these problems? Im thinking something in my engine is blown. Any help will be greatly apprecaited. Thanks for reading.

btw my car starts and runs good

Oil lines may not be crushed, but are they hot? In otherwords is the thermostat opening?

Sounds like you need to clean your oil cooler firstly...alot of crud works its way into the fins and reduces the thermal cooling efficiency.

-or-

Its time for an oil cooler upgrade. I will going this route next month as my 930 gets pretty hot in stop and go traffic once I am moving its OK.

For the oil leak(s) there are no oil lines around or near the CIS except maybe the oil feed line to the turbo which is notorious for leaking and a pain to get to. Check your valve covers as they are a huge leak source. Otherwise (sorry to say) if the leak is really bad..time for a case re-seal.

Try running regular Dino Castrol GTX 20W50 if you are currently using Synthetic.

LOL, must be new to the area! I am 2 exits north on I-77.

I need to get you in touch with Brian Smith, the resident 930 guru. He lives over in Concord. Or have you taken the car to Terry at the 9-11 Shop over in the University area?

Check your PM's for Brian's email address.

Your oil temperature sensor may be the culprit. It may be leaking and giving false readings. It's located on top rear of the engine. Item number 37.

i pulled the throttle body off. there is alot of oil around the top left cylinder. however I put my fingers inside each hole to and they felt dry. the oil pressure unit where the turbo line goes to has a small film of oil around the edges where the oil line goes into the line. I had my friend rev the car to 4k last night while I had my head stuck in there to see if any oil came on and there was none. Also there is a nut(?) on the back of the throttle body with a small ball inside of it, what is that? im stumped

thanks to you werk I found the culprit. My thermostat seal was bad and the thermostat was stuck, so my leak and hot problems was because of the engine thermostat. thanks again
