I must profess my guilt

I week of ownership and feeling a bit more comfortable, under hard excelleration I felt the fuel cutoff kick in between first and second. It was just for an instant.

She is not mad at me and everything seems okay but I still feel a bit guilty. I have promised her that I will be more careful in the future.

I feel better now that I have confessed.

It is made to do that. I don't think it is a fuel cut-off, but the rev limiter, which is ignition related. It cuts spark.

Don't feel guilty, let it rip. Just don't downshift into first or second instead of third or fourth. The rev limiter won't save you. Then you'll add injury to guilt.
Enjoy that car!
Congrats,
Doug

Don't feel guilty. If you were accelerating it just means you were having more fun than you can track.

Now if you did from a mis-shift, well, better luck next time.........

Thanks guys. I really was feeling guilty and wondering if I just messed up big.

ps. It was acceleration and not misshift.

Don't go above 4000 rpms before you're up to operating temperature.

Aside from that, fair game.

I bump the rev limiter on a regular basis when autocrossing.

Come out to Bremerton next time, and try the rev limiter out some more!

Take your time getting to know the car and the shifter. A 911 is like a 10 Speed bike, you need to be able to hit the gears perfectly w/o looking at the derailleur to see what's going on. It has to be 2nd nature. You need 100 perfect shifts before you can take your concentration off and then it's questionable if you should. But, when driving at the track, autox or in the hills, you need your concentration on what's in front of you.

What I'm saying is, you should be able to hear the motor and know when to shift w/o hitting the limiter. You just lose time when you do and it's not the best thing for the engine to constantly hit it, no matter what others say.

Race drivers don't need a tach after the first lap or two unless they are just checking corner exit speed. (The tack is more accurate than the speedo, especially in the lower gears). Learn to drive with the tach and then learn to drive w/o it.

Aeroman, you've experienced the Porsche equivalent of your girlfriend telling you "no, not there!" Over time you will get to know each other better and you can test her limits again. I'm sure she understands you meant no disrespect...
