930 Turbo Questions

I just purchased a 930 turbo and this is my question.

The PO, one of them removed the original slant nose fenders and installed regular 930 front fenders (steel). Along with the car came the original Porsche slant nose fenders.

The question to slant nose or not? What would you do?

make sure you have all the parts to go back to slant nose- every last screw and washer. In the meantime, enjoy the car as is with its standard fenders.

One day IF the market for real slants come around , it would warrant returning the car to its original as it left the factory condition.

Why you don't show us a picture of the car to give you a better answer?

OK here she is 1979 930 turbo paid $8500.00 which included the porsche slant nose fenders and the stock whale tail

The factory didn't build a slope nose 930 until '81, as a special order car. It became a factory option in '86. So, the car wasn't originally a slope nose, though the fender could be factory, instead of aftermarket, parts.

$8500?? Anything in the history to allow you to steal this car?

Yeah. $8500 is unrealistically low. What's the mileage?

Fenders are original Porsche with a single motor driving both lights. 125,000 miles sat for 8 years. PO sold it because he bought a viper and wanted it to have a good home. The seats have been covered for 14 years with sheepshin and are in good condition. Has upgraded k27 turbo, larger intercooler B&B stainless headers/exhaust and additional fuel injector added to richen mixture along with a controllable fuel computer. The PO was the second owner so I am the third. All electrical works A/C doesn't cool but that should be easy to fix.

You got a screamin' deal, assuming the car doesn't have any really bad secrets hiding away. That luggage piece in the back typically sells for about $500.

Unless you prefer the slantnose look, I'd sell those parts to finance some other goodies, starting with Surflex or Leatherique for the seats and maybe a less-puffy steering wheel. ;)

steering wheel has to go. I have used Color Plus on my old Jags and it works very well. Motor seems tight 4 speed trans shifts good. It is scary to drive faster than my Shelby 350. Only rust I could find was battery area. First looks didn't see any signs of repaired damage. Compression was even on all cyls. Couldn't do leakdown but will have to do that.

Awesome deal, congrats!

There's a pretty active 930 group on Rennlist if you're looking to do any mods.

Hi pickupguy,

Congratulations !! Beautiful ride!! Would you be able to post a picture of the slant nose fenders. The first 930s that were made by the "special wishes" program did not have pop up headlamps. The lights were integrated into the front spoiler, there were 4 square lamps, 2 on either side. I had the opportunity to purchase one of only a handful of RHD models about 5 years ago, but could not afford it at that time (damn!). I believe it was a 1981 MY 930. It is really beautiful, and have not seen one for sale since. If yours is one of these, it is bound to be worth a pretty penny.

I would love to see a pic of these first slope nose cars if anyone has one.:)

raj911 07-31-2006 05:06 AM

Finally found a picture of the first slopenose cars of 1981. These are ultra rare ...

It looks great! Mainly for that price.

I would not change any cosmetical parts until you get to know the car and find out IF there is any surprises after being stored for so many years. Also, with the mods you have listed above, that throtle pedal - for toe & heel - , 4" exhaust and "custom wrapped" steering wheel I would get to know the car first... put several hundred miles on it and drive it hard before getting into anything else.

Remember to go into turns slow to get out fast.

Good luck!

Taking this into consideration, I would follow Jack Olsen's recommendation and sell the parts that did not originate with the car, to finance other things you may want to do...
Suspension refresh...
Less puffy steering wheel:) ....................

sammyg2 07-31-2006 06:04 AM

Yep, sell the slant parts.
Great deal on the car, I hate you ;)

Craig 930 RS 07-31-2006 06:26 AM

Howzit run? Leakdown etc?
AC fix usually isn't so easy on a 930, a friendly caution -

I see you've owned Jags before - you'll have plenty of patience.....or are just insane ;-)
