Valve adjustment tool

I am about to do my first valve adjustment /tune-up(Parts are on the way from our host, including the OEM valve gauge.)

After reading some interesting posts, I would feel more comfortable having the tool pictures below.

Does anyone know where I can buy this tool?

Thank you

Paul McCarthy

The Island911 valve adjustment tool is one of the enduring legends of PP. Along with "I'm getting two free Porsches" and the current version/status of Jack's Black Beauty. Sadly, the valve adjustment tool has attained the realm of myth by now.

Agreed Gary: What works best for me it to remove the .004 gauge from a set. The single piece is very flexible and gives a much better feel of a "light drag"......YMMV

Not true. My recollection is that Island911 did two production runs and sold dozens of these tools. I don't think he's making them anymore.

I have also e-mailed Island for the same reason but no reply.

FWIW, I found the factory tool very nimble and easy to use. Can´t wait to do it again.

Don't bother asking I sent numerous e-mails to Island 911 inquiring and wanting to purchase two and never even received a response, perhaps he is overwhemed by requests at this point.

I have noticed Glen's (Island911) absence from the board for a while now. Anyone in the PNW know if he's o.k.?

I just did my first adjustment with the Pelican Tool and found that I can simply bend the gauge material up at a bit of an angle right at the handle to try and replicate the Island tool 90 degree bend without weakening it significantly, and then it fits down into the well just fine. I'd recommend six spare inserts, however, especially if it's your first time. Someone made reference to the Island man having significant health issues some time ago. Not sure he's still with us, but hope so.

Some how my new factory feeler gauge does not look like the one in the pic exactly. The handle part do, but at the blade end mine is at a 90 dg. angle. It worked perfectly.

Are the factory not supplying the same tool over seas ?

I need to post a pic of mine for you to evaluate.

i've used the tool from pelican with the 2 small screws for 3 valve adjusts now, 2 times with the engine in, other time engine was out.
as long as you use locktite there are no worries, i also wrap a small piece of electrical tape tightly around the holder over the screws.
i think it boils down to having a feel for the tool you're using, and the precautions that come with the tool.

From Pelican last year. It has been bent to work better. Attack from the rear of the foot & move the foot as you slide it in.

Haven't seen or heard from Glenn in almost a year. He and another active NW Pelican guy had some serious differences last summer over the scheduling of a few events. Both have seemed to wander off.......Sad...

now really, how hard would it be to make one of those?? you guys are mechanically inclined, so head on down to the store and get some material. geeze, all the gripin' about them being unobtanium, and nobody can fab one up?? that's all glenn did. in fact, someone needs to take over production.

here's the original thread, and there are more if you search.

better valve adjust tool

the dimensions are in that thread. glenn used a rounded end and shortened it a tad so it cleared the converters better.

Totally unrelated to the topic, but check out island911's profile http://forums.pelicanparts.com/members/4884.html?action=getinfo

He disappeared with 9999 posts! Maybe he got a new name too...

The factory tool is very good...I have both tools, Island's and the Pelican version. I actually like the factory tool more....if it's bent to a 90 degree...the factory tool is just fine. Have plenty of extra blades, loctite the little nuts on the guage to keep them from popping off...and use a light coat of oil the on the blade surface....I few slides and you'll develop the correct "feel". Have fun

John, for a moment there, I thought you were diversifing and tossing your hat into the production ring.
