AC Compressor spitting grease...
85 911 with factory air set-up.
Whenever I run the AC, I find a streak of grease on the underside of the engine lid. I presume it's worn, but is this something that can be 'rebuilt' and repaired or do I need to replace the entire compressor?... Thanks, Ken

You can get it rebuilt, probably easier and doing it yourself if you don't have the right pullers and such. If its the original York, why not get a new Sanden Seiko? You'll have to pull a vacuum and recharge with R-12 unless your converting to R-134. You have to have an EPA license for R-12.

Replace with a new seal. Might also need a sleeve to prevent the shaft threads from tearing the seal when installing it.
A more efficient compressor would be nice too. Sherwood |

When it throws oil like that it is the shaft seal. See the write-up in the tech section on rebuilding. $30 worth of seals. I have the seals but haven't gotten to mine yet, but it does look reasonably easy.
see AC Kits for seals. Ian
