Red face Strut Tower Brace Install: Emergency or Not- Help???

Hello Everyone-

So the situation is this- 1988 narrow body 911

I removed the bolts from the passenger side and installed the brace on this side without a problem. the drivers side however has left me a little concerned...

I removed the two upper bolts from the strut brace and proceeded to reinsert the bolts to tie the brace down at it turns out one of the nuts which secures the bolts (and thereby the bar) simply fell to the floor. I looked up into the fender well and looked at the other nuts and they dont seem to be securing anything but the strut tower plate assembly bolts. I reused the nut in the spot that it was previously located and just torque wrenched all the bolts to 34 #'s .

Haven't driven the car yet and just wanted to see what y'all had to say . . . . please tell me this 15 min. project isn't going to turn into a nightmare over a stinkin nut.. . . .

Thanks

I'm not sure I follow either. It sounds like one of the nuts on the upper strut mount came off the bottom of the mount when reinstalled the bolt. If you just put it back on and torqued it down, you should be good to go....just my guess from your description though.

Common problem. Those weld-nuts are not affixed very well.

Yes, you can just thread it back on. Better fix is to weld it back on.

You should not get into technical writing. I do not follow either. Take some pics!

I'll stick to lawyering- engineering was never my thing. Chuck seems to have a better handle on what I'm trying to say than how I drafted my explanation. Thanks all...

Chuck has got it. This happened to me too. The nuts on the bottom of the camber plates are welded on. When you try to remove the bolt it sometimes twists the spot weld on the nut free from the plate.

Hey Jorian, stop by and I can put the mig on those nuts!!

I too had this problem. One on each side. I welded them all, not anticipating any problems in the future!

Cheers
