Talking 2 hours to remove...Should I repaint them?

2 grim hours to wrench, saw and drill these heater boxes out of my SC. Looks like Ohio salt did a job, huh?

What do you think....repaint ? I'm thinking maybe 64 coats of POR15 and they'll be near-new.....

Looks like a trip to the "heater boxes for sale" list for me!!!

Wow! I've never seen a pair that bad.

I've got a slightly less-rusty pair for sale, see this thread:

HUGE parts sale - various new & used parts, something for everyone

We have snow here, but it's on a different island. However, whenever I get that Carrera, the heater stuff is coming out. I have headers on the way.

Hey, I live in Chicago. Heater stuff is coming out as we speak. Tiddies up the engine. Besides, the garage is heated.

Hey....are you going to have that back together for the DE track day at Nelsons Wednesday? Shouldn't need heat....should be in the 80's.

My heat has some "issues"...it has that automatic thing with the motor driven cables....but I don't drive it in the winter. Ohio is hard on cars in the winter. Brian

Ouch! I cleaned up mine while my engine was out in July and mine weren't close to that bad, but the car is from CA, so that helps a little, and I don't drive it in the rain/snow/salt...

Watch out: this part has been superceded many times and the old ones are different from the new. Make sure what you buy is identical.

I've seen that before...It'll clean right up with a little rubbing compound.
Just be sure not to use the heavy grit stuff, as you wouldn't want to damage the finish.

I just replaced mine. Got Dansk ones from Pelican- less expensive than those listed. Just ask. BTW, getting the rear upper nut on is a *****! Especially if you have AC.

Update: Oh my god. I've been bleeped!

If you heater boxes looked that bad, have you looked at the cage under your smuggle's box?
