I just installed a brand new $400 ignition switch and now the car runs a little bit different, in a good way, mostly... The old switch snapped where the mechanical piece meets the electrical portion.
First of all, it seems quicker. Odd but it really does seem like it's faster than it was before. And now it seems to have developed a gurgling when decelerating. I have a free flowing B&B exhaust with backdated SSI's.. Any ideas? Or am I just crazy. I know the gurgling is there, maybe it's due to the fact that the car was sitting for 1.5 weeks? Could the switch replacement inadvertently leaned out the car to make it gurgle on decel? But the *perceived* performance increase?? ________________________ 206AA 1979 911 SC ________________________ |

It probably does run better. The old ignition switch can ground out power to the engine causing a reduction in juice feeding your ignition system.

Thanks RarlyL8. So now I am wondering if the increase in power has affected the CIS mixture... Drove it to work this morning, still popping/ gurgling on decel. I guess I am going to have give her a tuneup and see if I can get rid of it.. BTW, I was born in Huntsville...

I'm doing the same thing (replacing my ignition switch) Question: Before installing the switch, did you try to turn it towards the starting mode, and if so did it spring back? I bought a brand new switch and it does not spring back, to the on mode. Granted I still have the switch on the bench. Thinking I have a defectve switch. Any ideas??

Easily explained. Your wallet is now $400 lighter resulting in a higher power to weight ratio...

Mark,
Yeah, I tried the ignition with the key before installing it. There wasn't that much spring to it but there was a little. Maybe try lubricating the thing a little and see if it is more noticable? But all and all, I would say it had very little spring to it. Installing the thing was a little more challenging than removing it. I ended having to give it a light tap with a hammer to get it situated (this was after completely removing the nut that hold it into place and backing out the bolt a little.
