My new toy, what should I do?

just picked up my new toy and wonder what to do with it or even if I am in to deep,it hasn't been driven for 5 years so it needs a good run but before that a check up,no I didn't get a PPI but I had a good reason, here is a pic, please tell me what you thinkhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1155422263.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1155422289.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1155422311.jpg

I would change oil and brake fluid and check alternator belt, then take it out for an Italian tune-up.

Eric-325I 08-12-2006 02:45 PM

Sweet!

I would do a full 'tune-up' on it (oil, filters, plugs, etc.), inspect your entire braking system to make sure it's functioning properly (incl. flush), inspect suspension, etc... Dump the large rubber bumper pieces on the rear end... And enjoy that sweet ride.

Oh yea, start saving for upgrades and such...

Grats!

Eric

Looks great, Martin. Enjoy it. Do the suggestions above particularly oil, oil filter & fuel filter.

What year . . . etc etc.

check for leaky gaskets, etc?

MattAlpha 08-12-2006 03:41 PM

Put a clean piece of cardboard under it and check for leaks.
After you due all of the routine stuff, take it out. Verify that all the gauges, and electrical stuff is working properly (including the door locking mechanisms). Check the trunk and engine compartment for misc items.
Put the cardboard back under it and look at it in the morning.
She looks beautiful, enjoy!

Interesting. What year is it? Is it an SC backdated? That's a unique rear bumper. Is it fiberglass?

.
As for getting it back on the road:

flush brakes, excercise calipers/pistons (you might have to rebuild the brakes)

oil change (I might by cheap 10/30 or 10/40 and run it through the lub/oil system. Maybe go around the block a few times, then drain it, then put in 20/50 Castrol or your choice of brand)

flush fuel tank and clean fuel system (what system is it?)

check timing when running ..the go put some miles on it.

....but first, tell us more about he car.

MARTIN AIDE 08-12-2006 03:55 PM

ok,sorry guys, there is a story here but I just got home from work and family wants to go out for dinner but I willreturn,Marty

ruf-porsche 08-12-2006 04:05 PM

What is it? It a 1979, 80 81, 82 backdated SC with wide bumper guards, toronada mirrors and an ansa exhaust.

coldstart 08-12-2006 04:10 PM

1970 911S

I believe that Martin told me that he was considering picking up a 1970 911S that had been highly modified with flares and "updated" bumpers. This looks like it. Great pick up!

coldstart 08-12-2006 04:13 PM

And supposedly it has original recaro sport seats. I won't disclose his sale price but I'm viper green with jealousy.

Por_sha911 08-12-2006 06:15 PM

Congrats! Nice looking ride.
My favorite mantra (other than "use the search button"): Baseline the car:
All fluids:Brakes, trans, oil
Fuel, air and oil filters
plugs, cap and rotor, oil the dizzy
check brake and fuel lines, belts
check the brakes, tires may have dry rot after 5 yrs of no use
I know you've got other issues to deal with first but the ride height is a little high (although you may have issues with the front tires rubbing).

GaryR 08-12-2006 06:29 PM

Flush the gas tank/fuel lines and put in fresh gas with some Techron, do an engine and transmission oil change (Mobil 1 15-50 and Swepco) as long as it isn't leaking when warmed up and flush the brake system and put in ATE Blue or Gold fluid. Then get rid of the driving lights, get smaller headlight trim rings, replace the whale tail with a duck tail, swap in aero mirrors, get rid of the big rubber blocks on the rear bumper and get her rolling!

Oh, and get rid of the SC emblem!
:D

MARTIN AIDE 08-12-2006 06:32 PM

hey Richard,it is the one I was telling you about so you stole my story as we were going to have a sat night guessing game, what do you think?
just to fill the rest of you guys in it 's a # matching 70S with the proper motor freshly rebuilt but 5 years ago and then driven only a couple of times after that althoug carbs, not mfi and they are running like crap.I had more pics but for some reason after emailing them from work I can't save them but I could email them to someone else if you want to see them because there is good and bad about this car and would like some educated opinions as to what I should do please let me know.Marty

GaryR 08-12-2006 06:37 PM

Carbs sitting for 5 years with today's wonderful gas ususally means they need to be cleaned out/rebuilt, which may be your running problem but of course that depends on what "running like crap" means..

herman maire 08-12-2006 06:42 PM

Looks good....real good. Just put a proper RS rear bumper with a duck tail and your set.

how much ya get it for?

Pele911 08-12-2006 07:07 PM

I would get that thing sorted as the above suggestions state (brake and fuel delivery). Drive and enjoy it for a while before you start returning it to its S state. No need for another RS replica, do something body wise that you find desireable.

70SATMan 08-12-2006 07:51 PM

Nice find! Smooth out those SC flares and start a S/T conversion!

More details! and pics. Looks like you have 72 or 73 seats judging from the headrests. THe only thing that makes me nervous looking at the pics is the T trim but, that could have been added along with the other SC wanna be pieces.

MARTIN AIDE 08-13-2006 03:29 AM

what is the T trim?Marty

bkreigsr 08-13-2006 04:30 AM

't' trim is the thin rocker molding.
's' trim has full length molding that was channeled into a stainless rocker overlay that extended wheelwell to wheelwell with pretty end caps.
