Alloy calipers stock on 74?
1974 coupe. From everything I have read, the stock calipers for the 74 coupe were cast, not alloy. I stuck a magnet to the rear calipers and they were cast, the front however were non magnetic...s, calipers I presume. Were these a factory option? or an upgrade.

According to the '74 Spec. Book the alloys were standard on the Carrera and 'S' ...

Shake:
Warren is right. The standard 911 in 1974 had a cast iron caliper (I had a 1974 911, stock, and I am certain aware of the smaller swept area of the cast version); the 911S had alloy calipers. They even look different in size and design......Andras |

I hate to disagree with Warren as I'm new to this list, but in '74 only the Carrera had the aluminum calipers. This is confirmed by "Original Porsche 911" and the complete original '74 S sitting in my garage!

Mike, I'm not offended at anyone that disagrres, it can lead to better understanding in many cases. But, in this case, the information came straight from p. 73 of the 'Technical Specifications' booklet, a factory publication considered the last word by most. Unless your struts and calipers have been changed at some point, your car may be a 'normal' 911 with trim pieces changed to enhance resale value ... the VIN number would be a good indicator to start with.

No Warren, my car is authentic down to the VIN and original documents. I can research some more, but I'm sure I've seen in several places that they decontented the S in favor of the Carrera in '74, including the brakes.
