window linkage

Hi. I was wondering if anyone has fixed their window linkage on an older 911. (Mine's a 1974.) When I bought the car, the passenger window was rough to open and close. Then, it got to where it wouldn't close at all. I took the door panel off (breaking some rusty screws off in the door). The problem turned out to be that the window was coming out of the slotted window frame piece that it sits in. Then the frame piece would slip toward the inside of the car and get out of the groove in the door that it was supposed to slide up and down in. Between the slotted window frame piece and the window there is a rubber U-shaped strip. This strip right now is not connected to the window or the slotted window frame piece. I cannot tell whether the rubber frame piece should be connected to the window or the slotted window frame piece below it. Has anyone run into this problem and what were your results? I appreciate any help you might be able to give me. I know this car is going to be a lot of work in the future, but I think it's worth it.
