Knockoffs: "This seat is same style as original equipment on the GT3"

I'm sure the Stuttgart lawyers are thrilled with the embossed crests :-)

some guys brought by a set of carbon seats one day for us to evaluate- they LOOKED ok, but were total flexi flyer pieces ! They learn from their mistakes, so i expect we will see much stronger seats but still with no FIA or TUV approval so ... PASS !

There are various levels of quality for Chi goods, some excellent, some shoddy. You generally will get what you pay.

Most of the high end guitars sold on ebay from China are totally bogus, many of the advertizers don't even own a guitar (hijacked pictures).

Made in China can't be that bad, the last genuine PORSCHE part that I brought here on Pelican was MADE IN CHINA.

Was hoping someone had actually bought some.

For $600 or $800 each they would be a bargin if they were any good. I don't really want to be the first. Can someone answer the question of will they fit in a Mid nine?

As supplied, no.

They come as seats only. You'll need side mounts then some type of sliders. 996 sliders will not work in an earlier 911.

I planned to buy a pair, use the GT3 sidemounts then see if those would mate to my sliders.

There are some good links on Rennlist, search "GT3 seats" in the title where people have documented their install, including measurements of the mounting holes compared to Pole Positions. Not the same, IIRC. There have also been posts here with a pair in an SC or Carrera Targa, so it can be done.

IMO, I'd hold out for the real deal. I think you could find a pair for less than $2K.

One more thing...I sat in one the originals and it was too tight for me. A few weeks ago I sat in another one and I fit well. It gave me hope that maybe I could still use a pair, but now maybe I think I sat in a fake.

Practically everything except food. Cars are assembled elsewhere, but many of the parts are from Mexico and China.

Made in China and cheap food are the secrets to low inflation in America--not much to do with interest rates.

I would not buy a seat if you can not inspect it beforehand or have recommendations from someone who knows the part or supplier. Seats are a vital safety item. A nice looking seat that breaks during an accident can break your (or your passenger's) back, cut your neck or worse. Parts from China can be good and don't have to be lousy quality, but I would not dare to buy a seat unseen.

So TodSimpson the ad in ebay said the fakes had wider bottoms. It sounds like the ones you sat in. What was your inpression of the quality? You didn't even know it wasn't a Porshce seat right?

I wasn't checking out the seat at all....I was paying attention to the driving position in a track prepped 996. I don't fit well in a stock 996 at all but this setup was very nice.

The seat was grey, however...not sure if the fakes come in anything but black?
