lost wheel lock socket
I am in a little bit of a tight spot. I have misplaced my socket that fits my wheel locks. Anyone ever had success getting these off without the use of the special socket? I have been told to take a socket that is smaller than the lockand drive it on. I have tried this with one, but all I got was the head of the lug to twist off. I can attack the rest of the lug in like manner, but before I do I thought it was worth a try to ask the list. I am sure that someone on the list has encountered this in the past. How was the problem solved? Thanks, Kevin

Are they factory lugnut locks?
If they are, then you are in luck. Just go to the nearest dealership and they will be able to use their master kit to find the correct socket for the lock. If they are not factory then you can try a variety of methods, but you may just want to ask the tire service centers around you for some help. Someone will have a method, but it will cost you labor. Good luck! -Matt

Snap On and Mac tools has a universal kit to remove these lock nuts, but you could also get them at any auto supply that carries OTC specialty tools. But if this will be only a one time event for you and not like me who likes having these tools, you might just try the local tire guy who should be able to do the job for a few bucks. Good luck, Allan

Gotta love the trunk monkey.
I've heard of people who a) welded a nut on and b) used vice grips.

I ended up buying a set of extractors that is made for this sort of thing. Around $20. I will let you know how they work. I will need to build something to protect the finish on the wheels during use. Thanks you for the suggestions. Kevin
