Emissions DEQ test....Question
To register this '76 911S/3.0SC I have to pass the obligatory DEQ emmissions test.
I'm dreading it. So I'd like members opinions on what grade of gas to use durning the test only. (both work fine in my car but premium is funner). My gut tells me that regular 87octane would burn faster and more completely. Wonder if that's good? If there is a little oil in the combustion chamber (and we all have that) maybe slower burning 92octane would take care of it better. Any experiences out there? Peace |

You are correct the lower the octane number. The better chances are you'll pass because the flame is slower in time + burns at a higher temp making for more complete combustion IF the engine can handle it.

Well actually regular gas burns faster than premium. The higher the octane the slower the burn.
That's why older performance engines with high compression won't run well on regular. You need to retard the spark or you get predetonation. Regular just pops off too soon. It can cause overheating. Which might be good for an E test. More heat equals fewer emmissions.
