AVG MPG?

I've been tracking the gas mileage (especially since the price is up)of my 74 Coupe. I've been getting aroung 20mpg as an average of hwy and town driving. Just thought I would ask to see what mileage you guys (& gals) get out of your 911's. This is with moderately agressive driving.

Mine seems to vary a fair bit. Down to 17 when I first bought it (October 1999). I no long keep the RPMs as high as then. I adjusted the valves. I got 21.5 mpg on a 1-tank calculation just the other day. '83 SC

My 72"E' used to get 24mpg on the highway and around 17 in town, which I thought was great. My 73"S", now that it is tuned, gets an average of about 22 as long as I am not on it too much. This puts me down around 19mpg, which still isn't bad.

My 86 Carrera is consistently getting 30mpg on the freeway and 24 around town on 87 octane.

I managed to get 31 mpg out my 2.0L on my last major trip of 1700kms (1056mi), and thats with larger than stock jets.

I'm getting 20mpg in my 86 Targa. Mostly highway miles. I wonder what the difference is between my 911 and stlrj's.

I dunno, I drive pretty hard, though.

My '85 gets 26 to 28 on freeway, and around 20 around town. (128K on ODOmeter)

My 1982 911SC Euro gets about 18 mpg in local driving and 21 to 23 on the open road. I have kept track my mileage diligently for the 3 years that I've owned the car.

A good part of my mileage is likely due to my modified 5th gear set. I'm using a set from a 72 915 which lowers the ratio to .76 as opposed to the stock .83 and results in 27mph/1000rpm. That means when I'm cruising the interstate at 70mph, I'm only turning 2600rpm. According to my calculations, your car is turning 2900rpm at the same speed!

In addition, I had to lean out my AFM to pass smog here in California which helped mileage and performance considerably.

Well, I have a chip in my car, too....so that's probably part of it. Wish I had the stock chip so I could compare. Hmf.

You guys kill me. I get 9mpg in the city and 20 on the hiway in my 930.... Be happy with what you got...

Since starting this thread, I figured I would get a more accurate hwy mpg. I recently put 780 miles of all hwy driving on my 1974 Coupe with an average of 23 mpg. This is while obtaining an average speed over the legal posted limit. I think the 5 speed really helps.

cstreit made me feel a little better again...my mileage is about 16 mpg driving around town with a few hard driven freeway miles...haven't done any freeway driving of more than 15 miles at a time since i had the car worked on extensively two months ago...so i could only guess...

Living in Canada, gas prices are very high (0.90$ a litre or 3.60$ a gallon). I drive my 86 hard daily and in the city. I get around 350 to 375 kilometres to the tank. I am not sure how many mpg that is and I am tired so.....thanks

hey mike...that sounds like an excercise in metric conversion (if two trains approach each other with 214 km/h on a track that is...)

anyway, if your car is anything like the middle years porsches, then your tank should take about 16-17 gallons (63-65 liters) considering that you rarely drive it until the tank is dry...

so taking an average of 235 miles per tank (or 350-375 kilometers) would give you a consumption of about 14 mpg, or roughly 18 liters per 100 km...

Thanks Till, that sounds right. I have a chip and B&B muffler and that is city driving. Also, I beat the car daily so that sounds right. Tiday I passed the 100,000 Km mark. I need someone to hold and comfort me.
