Dallas area service/detail shops needed

I originally posted this on the 928 board and got zero response. Obviously, there aren't many 928 enthusiasts left, at least in the DFW area. Maybe some Dallas area 911 drivers will chime in.

I have an '85 928 and will be moving it to Dallas this week. I'm looking for recommendations for a service shop to do routine maintenance. I am familiar with Mayo, although I consider him more of a (early) 911 guy. I'm not opposed to using a dealer, if that's where the best 928 tech works. I also will be looking for a good detail shop. The car will be in the Loop 12/Tollway area.

Thanks,
JR

I've used Mayos and Fifth Gear for my 911 and I've seen some 928's there as well. You also have Zims and the RUF AutoCentre in the area as well.

You must be kidding about Dallas and 928's, right?

There is probably one of the most rabid groups of 928 owners in the U.S. in DFW....but, you won't find them here. Go to the Rennlist forums for 928's. Pelican's strength is 911's.

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/forumdisplay.php?f=69

Zim's is good, so is 5th Gear. But, you'll find more of the owners here do their own service, most likely as part of a "work party". These happen fairly regularly. There is a lot of knowledge and comraderie surrounding this model in DFW. Welcome!

PS- We're planning a drive down to the Gulf Coast (Third Coast Gathering) the weekend of Nov 10-12, so block out the date.

Also, we're probably going to do a mass timing belt replacement on 3 or 4 cars in October..

Ed,

Thanks for the invite but I'm going to remain in Tulsa. The car will be living at my brother's house. If I'm ever down there on a weekend where the DFW guys are getting together, I'll try and attend.

I think I've got the shop issue squared away. It's just had a major service and should need nothing more than fluid changes and the occasional wax job, at least for several years.

Weren't you leaving Dallas for California, or some such?

JR

I misread your post, I thought it said you were moving here. Use Renn if you have any questions...

We're in holding pattern on the move right now, my wife's company wants her to stay here for the time being.

Java, I misread it as well....I just moved from Tulsa back to Dallas about 4 months ago. Did we meet in Tulsa ever at The Wild Fork for breakfast?..I get screen names and real names mixed up. What a great groupt that is...I wish Dallas had something like that.
BTW, Ed knows the scoop on the 928s.

Buck,

I'm sure we met a time or two. I go to the breakfast nearly every week. The name Jeff Roberts ring any bells?

Yes it does and I'm sure we met a time or two. I usually made it to the breakfast about twice a month. The highlight was when John brought his 73 RS (yes, a real one). What is the guys name who brings the Gallardo on occasion? Utica Square is one of the things my wife misses most about Tulsa and she's a born and raised Dallasite.
Ed, is that a 928 drive or just Porsches in general?

Well, it's being organized by 928 guys, but having some token air-cooled cars wouldn't be a problem....

Buck,

The guy with the Gallardo is Randy. John sold his RS, although there is a local doctor who has one as well.

Randy...that's right, doesn't he have some other nice toys as well? I remember when John sold that, I'm just glad I saw it before he got rid of it. I wonder if he wishes he'd kept it.
