2.4 E Rebuild
Ok now it's time to get the real experts input. Just finishing a 2.4 T rebuild which included the following. New 2.4 S P/C's, timesert case, flycut heads to clean them up, new E cams, rebuilt E spec MFI pump and of course all the other work required for a quality rebuild. Trannny is 8:31. Now my questions - the engine came with an almost new 0231-184-004 JFUD 6 distributor which as far as I can tell is for a 74 -74 Carrera. How is this curve vs a correct E spec dist. curve? is it worthwhile having the dist. recurved ? Is it worthwhile boring and matching the plastic injection stacks for this engine or is this really only applicable for the higher RPM "S" engine ?
Thanks Chris Nielsen 72 T(E) Targa |

Chris, I think you lucked out as far as the distributor goes, the specs for both the centrifugal andvance and the vacuum retard are IDENTICAL for all T, E, S, 2.4 engines, and it was carried over to the CIS 2.7 engines, as well! The ONLY difference between all of the distributors was which rev-limiting rotor was installed!!! All you need is an 'E' 7100 rpm rotor, and your distributor will be right for an E! I don't know how happy you are going to be with that transaxle, though! Are you SURE it has am 8:31 ring & pinion? And, no, I don't think you have to worry about boring out the throttle bodies or stacks.
