Pegged oil pressure gauge...Help!

I have an '84 Carrera and the oil pressure gauge is pegged all the time. Key on...key off...running...not running...always pegged at 5 BAR.
I tried unplugging what I believe is the oil pressure sending unit and it had no effect.
The sending unit I unplugged was very easily accessed with the lid opened. It was located right on top of the engine slightly to the right side. Was this the right one?

What else can I try? New oil pressure gauge needed? Good used sources for oil pressure gauges? Can I replace just the pressure side of the gauge?

BTW, the oil level half of the gauge function perfectly.

HELP!

I had some trouble with my oil pressure sender a while back...Warren supplied me with some good troubleshooting information in this thread

Oil Pressure Sensor/sendor

Gauge was fine, I ended up having to replace the oil pressure sender, good luck!

open circuit. bad sender or a break in continuity between sender and gauge.

Most likely the sender needs to be replaced. It looks easy but is not. Mine could not be unscrewed. It screws into a block and I had to remove the block and put it into a vice. To remove the block you need to remove the oil lines that also connect to it. (Good time to replace those lines if they are leaking). The sender is behind the fan belt.
You can check whether the oil pressure guage is faulty by running a current through it with a variable resistor ($2 at Radio Shack) in the line. I was able to make my guage go through the full range of movement by varying the resistance, so I then knew the problem was either the sender or a faulty wire between the guage and the sender.

I had a similar problem on my 86. The wire in the right rear wheel well had been bared a bit from being pelted with dirt and sand for 20 years. I pulled the leads off the sender on the bucket, replaced them and rewrapped the wires with shrink tube and then added an extra plastic cover you would use for wiring and plugged the wires back on the sender at the bucket. No problem. When your key is off, give the gauge a whack with your finger and the needle will drop.
