New DME relay

I was having a minor problem where the car would not start and if I let it sit for a few minutes and tried again, it would fire up. Tried to start it last night after being out of town for a week and no go, left it alone for 20 minutes and then went back and it started. This morning I replaced the DME relay and all seems to be ok in the world. Other than that, have got the M&K installed and the right pipe in a better position as well as cut the valence. I'll have pics in the next day or so. perhaps a sound clip as well.

Now just have to order another relay so if Wayne is reading my mail, the order is on the way.

Its also a good idea to disconnect the battery and clean the contacts on the plug that the relay goes into. I had similar problem, replaced the DME and seemed to work, but then problem recurred. In looking at the plug, there was obvious corrosion, so I cleaned the contacts, coated with conductive grease, and it seems happy again.

Edit: Probably especially important for cabs, targas, or cars with leaky seals that occasionally get wet inside.

Thanks very much, it seems to be running fine right now but I will keep that in mind.

Had the same problem a few weeks ago. Bad DME.

If you take the old DME apart, it may clue you in to the problem. Faulty\cracked solder connections. My 1987 DME had two or three lifted solder joints. Take it easy....

I will do some surgery on it shortly, just ordered a back up for the glove box. It has been damp back east so i'm convinced that may have contributed to the starting problems. Have had it out for a number of errands today and it is performing up to par.
