TRE for little jobs?
A good friend of mine called to get a suggestion for brake work on his 996. He's in the Hollywood Hills now and I'd steered him to Otto when he lived in Venice. I suggested TRE due to their incredible reputation but is that overkill for simple work? I live in Dallas so I don't have any first hand experience with these shops. (other than a hysterical conversation with Otto when we dropped by while I was out there on vacation) I've finally broken my buddy of using Beverly Hills Porsche and I want to send him somewhere where he can become a permanent customer since he does NONE of his own work.
TIA

IMHO, TRE is happy to do any job on any car, and do it well. It may seem like a small job, but how important do you consider good working brakes
![]() On the other hand, if it's just changing pads, few cars are as easy to swap pads on than the 911.

This guy does not work on cars...at all. I might as well tell him to perform surgery on himself as get him to work on a car. He has a 930, a 993 and now a 996 and putting gas in them is about the limit. He loves driving 911's but he has no interest whatsoever in working on them...no time or inclination. I think sending him to TRE is probably best since he'll probably keep going back for any other work and they can be trusted. Personally I can't fathom not wanting to work on 911's but I have friends who race extensively and never touch a wrench anymore.

Be careful about those TRE guys, you start with a simple brake job...then BAM! GT3 Cup car. Brad is a text book example.

They can take care of him. From valve stem cap installations to replacing that engine when the rear main-seal takes a dump and it runs dry on oil. TRE, does the Porsche good.

Send him over. See what you get when you go there, they distract you, get you in trouble then yell at by others.
![]() Now Jermy, I am after the Recaro baby seat. I don't know about the Simpson's. I'll look it up. He's too small yet. I can't wait. thanks for the tip. |
