My '76 911 never came with the locking rod that goes from the top of the door panel to the locking knob. I would like to install them without taking apart the door panels, but I don't know what is involved in installing the rods. I took apart the very top plastic door panel, and all I see is a hollow tube where the rod should go. How does the locking rod insert into the locking knob? Does it screw in? Snap in?
TIA.

If I recall correctly the other end of the rod was bent twice at 90 degrees like a straightened out Z and goes through a hole on the lock plate. I would say it's impossible to get it in there without taking the panel off, and why not since there are only 15 screws to undo including the 2 from the top part you already took apart
![]() Edit: make that 16, missed one for the locking knob itself.

Thanks. I just installed the locking rod on the drivers side. All I did was take the lock knob off and the top panel and I was able to install the rod somewhat easily. Unfortunatley I picked up the wrong rod for the passengers side, so I had to re-assemble everything on the passengers side.

I always end up having to take those panels off when I need to fix something in the doors.
Awesome job doing that without having too!

Thank you for the support.
The rod end just looks like a 5 inch long rod with the bottom being bent 90 degrees and the top being twisted out so that the small knob at the top can easily mate with the top door panel cutout. The rod snaps into a small plastic gromet at the actual knob and then bends up to go through the small tunnel in the door and up through the top door panel.

Power door lock malfunctioin on passenger side
I have power door locks and the passenger door lock doesn't move. I hear it trying when I either lock or unlock the driver's side from the key or by pressing the power lock button on the center console. Is this an easy fix or must I take the door panel off and look around. What could it be?
