I was putting mine back on my car last night, and one was broke. I super glued it and it held great.

Okay, I feel compelled to jump in here. I hate to see Pelican take the rap for a problem that is not of their making. A few factoids...
The rubber used is a little soft (like foam.) This is true of the originals that were put on the car when new, like the ones sitting 5 feet from this keyboard as I type. Not every headlight gasket ever used on a 911 was the same, as Porsche does change suppliers from time to time and occasionally the design changes as well. In this case, the part has been changed. The gasket is a length of rubber glued into a circle. The same thing is true of many other gaskets on a 911. If yours breaks, re-glue it. Simple. If you are having a hard time installing the light, make sure you have installed the gasket correctly first. If you play with it a little, you should be able to figure out which way it goes. The light does take a little pressure to "snap" into the correct position. It feels a little like an "over center" action, if you understand what I mean. I personally will clean and dress the rubber before installation. I use something like Gummi Pflege, not Armor-All. I install the gasket with the glued joint at the bottom, which puts less stress on the joint during the installation of the lamp. Don't forget to clean and wax the inside of your headlight buckets while the light is out. Make sure the rubber drain tubes are in good shape. There. I feel better now. JR |
seal shaped like a capital letter 'L' ... with the longer side/segment going into the groove in the fender.

...which is why you mentioned where you bought it.... JR |
I purchased a set last summer from stoddard and they seemed more rubber like than foam. they had the seam but have held up well.

FWIW...the same thing happened about 10-12 years ago when I last put these on....with apparently Porsche-spec parts.
Those were with a "seam" too...and to keep the ruber soft and pliable you may have to expect the glue to be less-than-optimal at times. Not a biggie...I just used super-glued ( or other?)...and have been OK since... - Wil |
