Headlamp to fender seals split after only 6 weeks!

I installed both new rubber seals (from Pelican) betweeen the headlight ring and fender. 6 weeks later they have split! They felt cheap when I installed them, something like foam rubber. Is there a problem with the current supply? Maybe these are Chinese knock-offs? The previous set lasted 12 years!

Same thing happened to the seals that I ordered a few months back from our host. I was thinking of gluing them back together with Goop (under the assumption that they all pulled apart).

super glue, the world's worst glue, actually works real well on that rubber. just hold it until it sticks.

Why do the "CHINESE" always get the bad rap for poor quality?

Maybe they're Mexican or Canadian Parts, or how about Indian?

Just after reading this post, the UPS man delivered a set.

Looking at a brand new one, it is obvious to me there is a glued seam.

I think they are glued instead of being molded in a circle.

BTW, which side is out??

Did you have problems installing the headlights also? I cannot get mine to compress enough to get the headlamp to seal.

I had the same problem, got mine from Performance Parts. Repaired with black silicon caulk. Lynn

I had the same experience with a set I bought here a few years ago. I called and was sent a new set to replace the defective ones. Haven't had a problem since.

Pure crap. Mine split after a day, right at the seam where it was glued.

Besides that it is too thick I cannot get the H4 ring to hook on the top.

Now what? Does anybody have an idea where to get a quality headlight O-Ring?

I do know this; it is one length of rubber that is glued together. Maybe John Walker's superglue trick is better than the glue used in manufacturing.

I would imagine that the original Porsche part was a continuous molded circle.
For me the problem still remains with the thickness.

Looking at pics in our host's tech section, it is clear to me that original or earlier manufactured rings are thinner.

Maybe it's time to bring out the exacto.

Check out THIS THREAD. From the sound of it, the cement being discussed is a very agressive form of rubberized super glue and will do the job.

Those things have been that way for decades, from what I can remember. I don't even give it a second thought. Go to Lowes, H.D. or some similar place & buy a roll of thin foam strip insulation & make your own.

mine came from the Porsche dealer and have the same problem so i don,t think it,s a Perlican Parts only problem. Used some biketire repair glue (??) to fix them works great.

I replaced mine a little over a year ago when I upgraded to the H4s and mine feel like rubber not foamy like you describe.
