Flasher relay bad?

Sorry for such a common question, but the search function does not appear to be working tonight...

When I turn on my signal (flasher, directional, etc.), in either direction (L or R), I get a rapid flash at the dashboard indicators.

Is this indicative of a bad flasher relay?

Umm...also...exactly where is the flasher relay?

Thanks in advance,

D. O.

I would check the fuses first. The flasher can and will wear out or go bad. You can try to take it apart and clean it but it is easier to replace it. The best way to get to it is to open the front hood and it will be directly behind the fuel level gauge. Reach through the hole in the fire wall and pluck it out of the harness. It is black and about 1 " x 1" and 3" tall. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Is the relay a "Porsche Only" part or will a typical Euro relay work as replacement?

Nope, its special. A typical one is about $4 and this one is about $35, available from our host. I am sure that you could wire in your own but there is an extra leg that may make it more complicated.

Just great! As expected...

Do we need special air in our tires, too?

Sure, I hear there are a lot of people that use N2 instead of air... I guess that there is always a difference of opinion for performance.

The symptoms sound more like a turn signal bulb has burned out. Have you checked the outside lights yet?

Not yet. That'll be the first thing I do tomorrow. Observations were from inside the car on its initial cruise tonight.

Danny : On the 912 bbs there is a Topic referring to the Flasher compatibility and if I remember correctly you do not need to expend $ 35 bucks for the Porsche Part , there are some spares available that worked fine . I did that change in my 912 and the relay works just fine.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll check it out. All lights are OK. Purchased a "generic" Euro flasher from NAPA =
