Dam, hit a deer

I hit a deer on interstate 24, sucks, and the dear ran off#@@@!!&%$. I did my best to avoid the deer but at the last split second it darted in the direction of my swerve to the left. Happened at 10:30 PM central time. Took out my left front fender, headlight, turn signal, headlight trim and did some damage to the spoiler where it meets the fender. All in all I'm lucky, minor damage.

Not sure but I think that insurance companies do not consider this as a at fault accident. Opinions please...

Pics coming...

John

What? You were going to ask it for its license and insurance information?

I'd repair that myself before I had the the ins co involved. If I need them they're going to the cleaners.

Scott,
Thanks for the humor, I needed that. What the hell. Long weekend so I'll pull the fender, order a new one along with the other parts. Hey what the hell, it could have been much much worse.

That sucks, sorry to hear it. I don't if that's considered no fault but report it, that's what insurance is for. My guess (a complete guess) it's upwards of 2-3K to fix that right. Good luck.

That should only cost you your deductible as long as you can prove it was wildlife. If there is any evidence of fur caught in the seams or headlight bucket take a good closeup picture. If no hair, blood or witnesses the insurers may not take your word for it and call it a SVA, putting you at fault. There is no cost for asking them.

This is why you pay for insurance. Pay the deductible and let them pay the rest. I had Mercury pay $21,000.00 dollars for a RS America that I slid off the road. They paid with out blinking a eye. Said a dog ran out in front of me. Did you see that dog? He was huge!

After a long night and thinking a few times that I wished was just a bad dream, I'm just going to take it with a grain of salt. After an inspection this morning, it's really not that bad. I can repair the spoiler myself. Hopefully I can find a used in great shape fender and get it in relatively quick. Same for a headlight and trim and turn signal and fog light lenses. There is a very good paint shop 5 minutes from the house . I'm thinking in two weeks it will be a memory.

Interesting though, hmmmm.... could it be she want's a slope nose?

Anyway, looking for a fender, headlight assembly & trim, and turn signal lens. I think I'll loose the fogs and put in vents.

It couldn't hurt to call the ins. You might want to check with the laws in your state, here in Va we are required by law to report any accident that does over $500 in personal property damage.
Sorry about your luck dude but at least you are ok.

If the deer hit you, and it looks like it did, it's no fault.

Oh I hit a deer believe me. Amazingly, there is just a tiny spot of blood where the fender and the spoiler meet, so small it could be bug juice. Also, there were just a few strands of hair in the headlight area. Hey, I hope the deer survived. Looked around the area this morning, the deer was nowhere in sight.

Clean up the blood/hair, park in a parking lot, call the cops and report it as a hit and run, while you were inside shopping. Let them write a report.

Sorry for your loss, I have worried about hitting one of those 'road goats' many times while speeding through cornfield country at dusk.
Now, I love animals and everything, but if any of you Pelicans like to hunt deer, please come to Iowa and remove as many does as legally possible.
There are more deer than people here, last year I believe the legal harvest was close to 300,000. That plus all the poaching and road-kill still hasn't made a dent in the population.
They are quite delicious - organically- fed, free-range, low-fat, high protein meat. The Iowa DNR has expanded hunting seasons for bow, shotgun, black powder and large-bore pistol. If you have sharpshooter credentials (military, law enforcement), they may allow you to hunt them with a high-velocity rifle in DNR-sponsored deer drives in state and county parks. If you are so inclined, please come here and take some back with you. I'm serious - they are a pestilence.

Why don't you have Ted Nuggent tape one of his shows there?

Since you're in TN, I'd take it to the PorscheDoc (aircooledclasssics) you could have a slope nose and flares

This is nothing short of advocating insurance fraud. It's a bad idea and cheats everyone.

John,
I'm glad you weren't hurt and the damage looks minor. Sounds like you have the right approach and it will be a bad memory in no time.

Post pics of your work!

The 'Nuge has been here and will probably be coming back. He puts on archery exhibitions and recruits kids for his 'Let's Go to U.P. Michigan, Shoot Bows and Arrows and Listen to Rush Summer Camp'.
BTW, I don't hunt - too many Homers in the woods with weaponry, plus everyone and their brother wants to give away their deep-freeze venison before the new season. Works for me.

Update,
This is a comprehensive accident (no fault and will not effect insurance premiums)

First estimate $5,979.47 OUTCH! Fortunately, I pay $100.00
