Is There Something Wrong With This?

I plan on pulling and replacing my 86's leaking AC Compressor with a new rotary unity and also replacing the Rec-Drier with a new one while the systems is 'open'. I would plan on then taking it right to a shop for charging since I am not set up for that.

Is this a bad idea?

thx

I just did exactly that on my 944 - the thing will now freeze you out of the car.

My 911 is next - hopefully in the next week or so. I still have a York compressor and the thing is a pain. The hoses are all new - make sure that yours look OK.

Since there seems to be 'nothing' in the system, I can't imagine why it would be a problem to just open it and R&R the components.

The hoses are not new, but were all replaced by the PO about 5 years ago. At that time he also put in an underbelly condensor. So, there is lots of condensor real estate and no reason in my mind that this car's AC shouldn't be at least good enough.

thanks

Sounds like you're good to go.

Even if it seems as though your system is low on pressure, I would suggest goggles or safety glasses when opening it up. If it is pressurized, you may want to consider a shop to capture the R-12 (if it is R-12).

Good luck with it.

The pressure is low or more likely, none. The other consideration is whether to convert to 134 while it's under a major service like this. I'm thinking probably so.

Right now I'm using Freeze 12 in my 911 and it works OK. But 134 is far more readily available.

I'll probably go with 134, too.
