Angry smog test in bakersfield

I had to get my car smogged by the end of august so the day before i go. that's a day early for me! first guy is covered with grease and wants to get in my car and drive it to the dyno. I told him i would drive and he got mad, threw my dmv papers at me and told me to get someone else. I went two doors down to another smog place and watched for customers = 0 for the hour I was there surprise. 2nd guy assured me he had driven and tested many porsches. I have an 84 m491 cpe. First thing he does is to grind the gears going into 1st. So I gave him some encouragement and told him that's the way you trash a transmission. So on the dyno not too bad. Pass with a really clean report. He now still has it idling while he looks for modifications. I tell him at some point you have to stop it from idling. This was with no fan blowing on engine. He takes 20 more minutes to visually inspect engine. When you open the small door to take off the gas cap, you shold hold the door as you release the lever. Over time you can spring the door. I tell him this and now he asks how much I paid for it. He then tells me if he breaks something he can replace it easy. He checks the pressure on the gas cap then puts back on car and slams door down. He then moves my car off dyno and parks it. Key won't come out or turn because he torqued it. Both of these shops are on white lane.

Just lovely. This is the exact reason I do all my own work. Smog monkey's have no clue. Heck...slamming the filler door on their rusted '72 Nova ain't gonna hurt nuthin...

I would send him an invoice for repairing/replacing the ignition.

Sorry about your experience. All smog shops I have used let me drive my car on and off the dyno.

I am too far from Bakersfield; maybe, ask for a recommended Porsche shop.

You should talk to Pete Zimmerman on the 911 board on Rennlist. I believe that he lives in Bakersfield & he certainly knows 911s.
