Chain rails on 3.2
What would be an estimate to repair chains and chain guides in a 1989 3.2 911
They are starting to rattle when warm . When it is the chains is it normal for them to make noise when worn and warm ? Absolutley no noise when cold Thanks

It depends on what exactly is wrong. That sound could come from worn/stretched chains but I'd expect it to be worse cold than hot due to the expansion of the engine. I think a more likely explaination would be a failing tensioner or possibly low oil pressure.
Price for chains and ramps is around 70 dollars. Price for new tensioners is around 100 dollars each I think. The labor might be quite expensive if you do the chains. The tensioners could be done in the car but it would be almost impossible to replace the chains without removing the engine. -Andy

I'd try a thicker oil first and then the cam line restrictors before the other fixes. Do a search on cam oil line restrictors if you don't know what I'm talking about.
