RS Style Carpet Conversions
I am planning to embark on this project with my 930 once the track season is over in October.
My plan is to do RSA door panels and the AppBix RS Carpet Kit. Also just ordered my Silver Prototipo today to finish off the look! My only concern is what I do about the speakers on my rear shelf. They are a key component to the audio system and from the pictures that I see on the web it looks like I would have to ditch them as I won't have a solid shelf anymore. What have you guys done or what do you think about this? Thanks

My solution was to toss the speakers along with the stereo system.
![]() The rear shelf RS carpet piece may cover your existing shelf. You may be able to just lay the carpet over the existing sheft, cut holes in the carpet for the speakers and put the speaker grills on top of the RS carpet. If the RS carpet is the same color as your existing shelf, you can always just put the shelf back in and not use the RS carpet piece.

Thought about just laying the carpet over but from everything I read, the misc pieces are cut such an exacting size that if they don't lay absolutely perfectly you end up with gaps. If that is true that pretty much eliminates the possibility of jamming the rear shelf underneath.
I have thought though about just putting the shelf back on right over the carpet but it kind of kills the look I think. Either way I am thinking that I will likely have to get real comfortable, real quick, with the fact that there is going ot have to be some form of a compromise.

Think of this as a chance to upgrade your stereo too; those rear fill speakers are doing nothing but holding you back. Ditch them, do what you want with the carpet, then figure out what's lacking from your front stage that's making your fill speakers a crutch.

Thats one thought... unfortunately speaker upgrades really aren't in the budget... track tires and other go fast goodies (plus carpet) is too expensive as is.

I installed the carpet kit last year. I also went with the leather RS door panels. I currently have no speakers but plan to put a component system in the doors. I just hate cutting those new leather panels. That and the fact that the new speakers all have awful looking grills. For now I enjoy the sound of my Monte...

I agree with don911; ditch the stereo. It adds weight and is useless in a sweet singing 911. My '73 has a custom made face plate where the stereo used to reside. I also have the silver-grey light perlon carpets throughout, RS door panels with leather pull straps.

Why don't you get a little extra carpet and build a rear seat delete platform as some have done in this thread and find a spot for your speakers. At least it'll move the weight of the speakers lower in the car and more towards the front.
Show me the pictures of your rear seat delete, installed Rich
