Speaker Grills
Bought a 89 Carrera 3 months ago, my first. Its been sweet so far.
My question: I'm replacing the front speakers, how do you get the speaker grills off? They turn but does not seem to want to come loose. Thanks for any insights. |

Your in luck! I have a 89 coupe and recently replaced the factory speaker. Under the plactic lip of the speaker grill there are a series of notches. If you can locate these, gently pry with a small flathead screwdriver evenly around the grill until the cover comes of. If you can't locate the notches, its not critical, just get under the grill and pry, sort of like taking off a hubcap. Be sure to keep the grill for future possible uses.

Thanks. What kind of speaker did you put in? I'm thinking of either the Infinity Kappa 52.1is ot the Rockford Fosgate FRC-1205s. Replaced the factory radio with a Pioneer DEH-P3100. Not high end equipment I know, but I'd rather save the money for the car.

My car came with the factory tweeter so I went with an Infinity Kappa component 5 1/4. They could handle the most power. I also installed an Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp I think its 75W channel. The Kappa's fit although its pretty tight. Sounds alot better than before.

Thanks 89911 I did install the kapa's no problem. Your door panel instuctions were spot on. The only change has been to the kappa tweeter, they changed to a larger one so mine are surface mounted. Sounds almost as good as my turbo spooling up. They get my thumbs up. david

GREAT! Speaker changes in 911's are probably the easiest and most rewarding upgrade you can do for the money. If done properly they also look completely original.
