Cool New Member - just saying Hi & Thanks

I have been reading here for several months and have found this board to be extremely helpful with a number of projects I have recently done and planning for my 911. I am impressed with the level of expertise and skill represented on this board. Thanks for all the help, advice and ideas for future projects. I have included a picture of my car as admission cost for joining.

Larry Z.

Larry,

Another welcome from the forum! Your car looks great, btw. Tell us more about the car and yourself. Where are you? How'd you fall into this money pit of a hobby? How long have you had the car? What's it's story? Etc.

More pics too (if you have 'em).

That's a shiny targa top.
Is it a relacement?
How does it fit on top and in storage?
Welcome onto the site and your 1st post!

I live in western Maryland (Cumberland). The car is an 1982 SC with 110K on the clock, usual mods, tensioners, lowered, etc.
I've owned the car for 13 years. The top is one of the fiberglass versions that you must attach to a regular targa top frame. I also have the normal folding top that came with the car. I thought the hard top would be better in foul weather, but to be honest with you I am not satisfied with the overall fit. I need to do some creative work to get a better seal with the targa bar. I have removed the AC and have installed headers that have no heat exchangers. I have started autoXing the car and have done 3 so far. As far as how did I get into this addiction to a car that is so different than anything else on the road, all I can say is when I saw the first 911 in 1965, I knew someday I would have one. I tried to slay the yearning with a 914 and then a 944, but it would not let me go until I got this car.

Well Larry, it sounds like you have plenty of experience with these cars and I'm sure you will quickly become a valuable resource on this board. 13 years of ownership is a long time.

Your SC engine bay is one of the least cluttered I've seen. Getting rid of those heater hoses and AC has really cleaned it up (as has the painted fan).

Beautiful pics, by the way.

Great car, Larry. It sounds like you have THE disease. Enjoy it . . . & you're certainly in good company here.

Larry,

Welcome to the Forum. You will find a lot here to fuel the addiction – and a lot of technical help

Great looking Targa and brave without heaters or A/C in MD. You just get to leave the roof off all the time. HeHe.

Best,
Grady

BTW; I'm a 914 owner from fall ’69 – the first one imported into these parts.

I didn't realise that a real option to trying to get all the heater bits back in my car is to not do it! Are there any downsides to doing this other than a cold interior? My 78 Targa is missing the heater blower etc and I was going to put it all back!

Nice car too & welcome. The main heater blower also turns on to help cool the engine if you reach very high temps. There's some crude logic circuit in the heater relay in the engine compartment to control this.

Thanks, so that means I will continue on this mission. We have some very hot driving days here in December and some very cold ones in June/July so it makes sense!

Don't forget to add your location to your profile and your car and year to your signature. It sure makes it easier when reading a post to see what year the car is. Nice car by the way!

Welcome to the jungle.
Your gold looks like it's in great shape.
I decided as you have that the AC had to go and am glad it's gone.

This forum is a sure way to come up with new ways to spend money and time. You'll pick up some great helps and hints when you need them.
Keep the camera charged up and post those pics.

PS, Beware of the Off Topic board
