chin spoiler install question

I'm about to install a chin spoiler, and I'm wondering about what to do with the metal bar that protects the (air condo?) evaporator. I thought it would be easy to remove, but I'm afraid that the center support bar is connected to the chassis in a place where I won't be able to reconnect it without removing the front valence. It this true? If so, it looks possible to drill the holes and attach the spoiler without removing the bar. Has anyone done this? Advice on how best to proceed is appreciated. I'd rather not remove the front valence. Thanks,

Hey Allen!

I've installed a rubber front spoiler lip without removing the front apron before. All the holes are drilled on center with the bottom edge lip of the apron and pretty much a straight-on shot with a hand drill. As I remember, there is a center stud that has to be perfectly aligned in the center of the apron but once that's determined you just mark the rest of the stud's offsets from center using a ruler.

You will want to use a rat tail file to make any hole alignment adjustments once you go to line-up the studs in the rubber lip with the holes but once installed you cannot see the holes if they're round or oval shaped, nobody will be able to see because of the backing plates.

BTW: This is my 911SC Targa in guards red that I installed the rubber front spoiler on... deja-vu.

I'm about to install the same. Does anyone have more pics of the install than the 101 projects book? (The book is a good descriptor, but the pics are somewhat lacking.)

There was an article in Excellence a few years ago that said to remove the bar that protects part of the A/C and that it made it easier to get to the underside if the valence. They made it sound as though it was an easy removal process but it seems that it can be done w/o taking the bar off. I'm interested in how you get it done since I'm doing this project in a few weeks.

Thanks all. Well, I just removed the metal bar. No problem, as the nut is welded to the mounting bracket, so no need to remove the valence. I may have to postpone the project a week or so, though, since I think I've decided that the old mounting hardware that I have is just too corroded to work with...
