Caster settings on lowered 911?
Just wondering what caster settings you guys are running on lowered 911's. Are you sticking with the stock 5.X degrees? More? Less?

It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. More caster results in camber gain when the wheel is turned hard over (ie: in slow speed turns), which can often help to keep a tire flat to the road (or slightly negatively cambered). This is more important for reducing slow corner understeer with wide, low profile tires, and less so with tall, higher profile tires. But the flip-side of that increased camber is generally more trail, which significantly increases the steering effort.

What is considered wide tires? I'm running 245/40/18 front / 315/35/18 rear.

uhhh...that would be wide :-)
I pushed mine all the way back (strut tops as far back as possible) for max straight line high speed stability. I did not measure to make sure its the same side to side but it tracks straight.

Making sure that it's the same side-to-side will make a difference as far as any "pull" from one side to another. This is why it's often more important to make sure that the caster is even from side to side as opposed to making sure that it's X degrees versus Y degrees. Most people won't notice 1 degree difference in total caster, but they will notice a 1 degree difference side to side.

True, my main reason for asking a X.X degree in caster is because I am trying to sort out a steering/harmonic shimmy like when you watch the wheels on a shopping cart as you push it arcoss the parking lot. There is a certain point where too much caster will cause this. I wanted to know if people are running more or less than the factory settings which is somewhere in the 5.X zone.

I seriously doubt that your shimmy has anything to do with caster. Tire balance or a bent wheel is more likely.
