72T, SC, Carrera 911 New Project
A few of you have followed this, especially the Northwest folks. We (my son and I) took the plunge with this project. I had been looking for something we could work on together that could be a more aggressive track car than my SC. Here is what we bought, I figured if it didn't work, the car was atleast worth it in parts.
Originally a 72T non sunroof sportomatic car. The guy had owned it since 1983 and had done 90% of the work himself. He claimed he was a licensed mechanic. The quality and especially complexity of the work he did seems to bear this out. He was a big sporto fan and wanted a car he could work on progressively. It's got a 76 repro whaletail, SC flairs were added, 16 - 7 and 6 inch Fuchs, late model steel rockers, SC doors with power windows, mostly carrera interior, aftermarket seats. Suspension is 84 carrer rear torsion bars and 19mm sway bar, front has a 19mm sway bar and the original 15mm sway bar, 22mm torsion bars, neoprene bushings. Shell was stripped and painted old purple metallic. Engine is a 84 3.2 with 45,000 at the time of the conversion, weber 46 IDA's, 75 EUR distributor, MDS, SSI's. The only bad part is the custom mated 925 sportomatic 4 speed. It should be in excellent shape, was rebuilt at the time. Car was driven but not many miles. It was parked in 2003 due (he says) to insurance issues and new focus on a 930. Our plan is to bring it back to life, swap out the sporto and make it into more of a track car. Looks like rust is not a big issue, front pan will need some work but can be saved, floors are good, Pictures: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Too bad about the Webers and the Sporto. You'll probably be able to take care of the sporto business handily enough, but getting the requisite DME parts installed and working could be difficult. Unless it will be a track-only car, in which case you probably don't have to worry about it...

Jerry: Since I passed on buying this thing Sunday just before you arrived, I went for a drive today to see if it was still in Rex' yard. I almost had 2nd thoughts and wanted it if you didn't. I saw it was gone and figured you already had your sleeves rolled up on this project.
Best of luck and keep us posted, you have a very unique car there.....

Jerry PM me your address and I'll ship those parts we discussed. Consider them my donation to a great father/son project.
