Red Interior. Bad for resale?
I'm interested in a car that has a can-can red interior. Will this be an issue at resale time? Car is silver.

Bird. It's the word...

Silver with a red interior sounds fine to me. The overall condition is more important to me than the colour combo...

I would love to have that color combo. But perhaps the majority of potential buyers would prefer something more main stream. IMO, thats not an issue with these cars. They should not be acquired with resale in mind, but rather picked out the way you yourself would like it.

That's actually a pretty good combination. I have a car with a Can Can red interior and I get a lot of positive comments on it. I've sold a car with this interior color and it wasn't a problem. Lot's of people are getting tired of seeing the same old black, tan or light gray interiors again and again.
If you like it, buy it. What the next guy thinks is less important than what you think. I think you'll be fine. JR Last edited by javadog; 09-02-2006 at 03:53 AM.. |

My brother's 87 was white with a can can read interior. We gutted it replaced all the trim with black and I sold the entire interior on eBay. I can't say it "jumped" off the market. It not a bad color, but it shows it's age real fast.

Very good question.
Let me propose this situation; A near perfect ’74-’89 in “like new” condition. Exceedingly low mileage and everything maintained/up-dated. Absolutely fully optioned (including some very rare and unique.) Normal exterior color (conservative Silver Metallic in this case.) The 911 is priced appropriately for its year and condition. The original special order interior is very bright and un-conservative. Can-Can Red, Lobster, bright paisley, etc. Porsche actually built quite a number of these cars. Some were built on the original Factory order; others were re-done at the Factory and sold new. I can’t say I can tell the difference. The only clues I have seen are black leather on a B-pillar, etc. where everything else was the bright color. Would you discount the value of the 911 or would you be willing to pay a premium (assuming you liked it)? If you wanted the 911 but not the interior would you be willing to change it? Remember it is in perfect condition. Some things are very easy to change; seats, panels, carpets, center console, steering wheel, etc. Others; A- and B-pillars, dash and a few others are decidedly more difficult. Obviously you would preserve all the original so it could be reinstalled. What would YOU do? Best, Grady

I wasn't sure what to think of it when I first saw mine in photographs from the seller.
But now I love it. I don't think it will effect resale - assuming the interior is in good shape. There are buyers that search for that color combo. I wasn't one of them - but now I feel as though I got lucky to get it. But then again, I'm not concerned about resale.

Silver over red is classic Porsche. Some people like the red, some don't. When I found my 993 in that combo, I bout flipped. It's very rare and I think beautiful.

I love can can red interior. I would have paid premium for it, if one came my way. Think there are many others who would as well.

I have owned a lot of cars over the years. I still have quite a few- really, I have too many. As I have made the transition from having one car to having many, I have changed the way I look at color.
Guard's Red used to be my favorite, either with a black or tan interior. I've now had so many, I doubt I'll ever buy another red car. I've had black, white, silver, brown, green, blue, you name it. I have started looking at color in a new way. I enjoy seeing unusual colors, whether inside or out. All too often, I see a car with a really neat exterior color, only to see that it was ordered with a boring light gray interior. It's like wearing white socks to dinner. Yuck. Porsche has offered many unique colors over the years and too few people have been brave enough to order one. If you ever see a car that has an out of the ordinary color palette, you might be amaxed at what can be achieved. For inspiration, head to the Pebble Beach concours in August and see what some people hav achieved. Some of them will take your breath away. Silver over red is not only a classic Porsche clor, it's a clssic color combo for countelss vintage sports cars. With the doors closed and the windows up, Can Can red mutes down to a rich red, almost blood red. It's a great look. JR |

I think the silver/red combo was the factory's choice for many of their competition cars in the '50 and '60's.

Silver with a black and red interior is one of the most desired sports car color combos. My Z3's color.

It's subjective and a matter of personal taste. Black or tan interiors are usually safe with most exterior colors. I sold my P-Car and decided to get a BMW Z3 roadster. I wanted a silver exterior. Red was the only color interior that I didn't want. I couldn't imagine looking at a red dash, door panels and seats for year after year
![]() But from the above responses, it appears I am in the minority. Go with your own taste and don't worry about resale.....it might take longer to sell but someone will come along with your same taste....good luck with the purchase.

That color combo was even used by the Japanese as well. I once looked at a '93 RX-7 that was silver w/ red leather. I LOVED it! I couldn't get them off the price though... man I wish I had bought that car!
I don't you'll have a problem selling a car w/ can can red. At first, I wasn't sure about it, but now I love it. I actually wish my GP White had can can red instead of the burgundy w/ cloth interior. I do love my cloth interior though! Mike

There are so many different styles, paint colors, interiors, etc., and you can find people who love or hate anything. Some people wouldn't have a black interior; some wouldn't have anything else.
My guess is that, at resale time, a rare interior color doesn't affect its value, but it might take a little longer to find someone who wants it. |

I've purchased two 911s with colors I wasn't crazy about. first was a kelly green '73 ask what I think now. Sometimes buying the car over the color really opens your eyes.

I think a red interior is great. In fact it's one thing I LOOK for when I search the ads for interesting Porsches.
Black is easy to keep, you can bring it back almost no matter what. Thats why it is popular. So popular I'd call it common. I'd rather have something not everyone else has when you go to an event. Silver and black -- half of the used Porsche ads are silver and black. Silver and red? One of one hundred, maybe. Beautiful and distinctive. ![]() Or this. FANTASTIC!:
