3.0RS Replica
I have an 83SC with widebody guards, teatray read wing and cup 2 wheels.
I have always loved the look of 3.0RS and with the widebody panels already in place I'm off to a good start. I have recently also picked up the front spoiler and smooth rear bumper on ebay. Next on my list is the rear spoiler - and whilst I know that the IROC cars had a monster rear wing added, I was wondering if the standard wing which came with the RS was similar to a more common version which might be cheaper to pickup. I'm thinking that the 930 turbo wing was close. I've done a lot of searching but can't find an answer to my question. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Tim

There were actually two tails for the 3.0 RS. One was about the same size as the turbo tail but the other was longer and extended out past the rear bumper. The early 930 tail was close to the shorter one but had an extra grille opening that the shorter RS tail did not have. If I were you, I'd use a 1975-1977 911 Carrera fiberglass tail, or the one from an '80 Weissach edition. Have you looked at what's available from the main fiberglass vendors?

Here is a shot of mine. I have the 930 wing on mine. I would like to get the correct one for the 3.0RS but for now this is OK with me. Good luck on the conversion and post some pics. ![]()

The IROCs were a derivative of the 3.0RS, they were delivered w/ ducktails in the winter of '73/'74
The 3.0RS was delivered w/ 2 tails, street was the short, one piece, w/ black painted edge as used on the '74 Carrera 2.7 ![]() Later versions had a separate p/u edge like this from '76, the p/u edges are reportedly nla, but the one piece replicas are widely available. ![]() The race version was longer and wider ![]() Most people prefer the shorter street tail A reasonably priced though not totally correct, modern substitute is an RSA tail on a steel lid. ![]()

A real RSR / RS 3.0 large tail will cost you somewhere in the vicinity of $3500 and up (i've heard 6k changing hands for one!)
Having access to two real tails, I've compared them to the more ubiquitous IROC RSR tail as shown on the white race car tub posted by Bill above. The dimensions are identical, so a great way to "make" a RS 3.0 tail is to get the specs on how wide the tail inner dimensions are , mask off the area on the fiberglass iroc, then prep and paint with a simulated rubber finish. You will end up with a much lighter tail (compared to the TUV required rubber edged ones) and lots more $$ left in your wallet
