EVIL ENGINE for you flat black fans.
I've been putting together an engine to use for fitment purposes for a twin turbo project. After seeing various threads on the virtues of flat black I decided to break out the rattle can and give you fellas an engine for your RATRODS.
If I put this in my Guards Red Turbo will I have hidden cool? HA!

That is what I was thinking after seeing the painted case. It looks nice with fresh paint yet would hide all the dirt. Not bad. Jeff, thanks for the offer. I do still need a couple of parts. As you can see in the picture there is no shroud/fan heat ducts that would connect to the heat exchangers. I need the assembly for both sides - cracked ducts and rusty tin would be perfect! I also need 930 tin for the front of the engine. I want to use the stock turbo cutouts. An old junk dizzy would be nice as well. Those are the biggies that I can think of right off the top of my head. This has really been a fun project. Building a motor without measuring anything or being conserned with torque specs! Ha! The only down side was cleaning - you just can't believe how filthy this old junk was. Litterally caked on oil grime from 20+ years for the most part. I've used a case of carb cleaner along with several scrapers and old tooth brushes. Nasty.

It's the anti-thesis of bling! I like it almost as much as my dirty, bare metal and oxidized paint 3.2. Flash is so last century.

If you want the flat black paint theme to continue outside of the engine, I have a black turbo look cab. You could put your finished twin turbo engine in it, and make it a real turbo beast for me. Everything would match perfectly, of course I would have to drive it home too... That engine looks great! Please keep us informed. I'm vary interested on how you're going to fit the extra turbo in there and then "plumb it". -Matt

What I'm thinking to do is start a thread where everyone puts in their ideas. This is purely an exersize to see if it can be done, not "should you do it". The answer to that is NO. My present engine works perfectly and is more powerful than the tranny (and myself) can safely handle. I get into trouble really fast some times. This past weekend I went for a drive and put a towel down in the seat to keep my dirty drawers off the leather. That towel got a little more of a workout that was intended when I hit an off-camber corner a little too hot. Thank God for 315s in the rear! I seriously doubt that I would use the flat black painted parts in my car. I did that just for the RatRod guys sense it seems to be having a surge in popularity.

This is the high heat 1,200 degree paint, right? It works very well.
Don't trust the color stuff which says it goes to 500 degrees, unless you know it will never get that hot.

I read someplace that flat-black adds like 15hp at the rear wheels. It also looks wicked cool.

Progress update: Heat exchangers
I installed a set of 993 Bishoff(sp) exchangers with the flipped flanges. I had no idea if these would work in this application. It looks like they might. It's gonna be tight but it could work.
