Oil Tank Breather Dilema
On a 3.2 motor there is a large hose that goes from the top of the oil tank filler to the intake plenum (after the MAF). On this particular car, when one removes the oil cap to check the oil level, the car dies like its pulling to much vacum. Clamping this hose off and then removing the cap and everything works find.
The only diagram i can find says this is the "oil tank breather hose", but it makes no sense why an unfiltered and unrestricted air flow into the system. Is there a check valve missing, Is it safe to vent the tank to atmosphere, and plug the connection at the intake plenum? |
