Rough ride with my 911 SC

Hi there im pretty new to this forum, I have purchased a 82 911 SC and have been working on it like crazy recently. I went about giving it an oil change, changed the distributor cap, spark plugs, blower and just basically cleaning the car up. The other day I was driving it and I noticed the car jerking, when I hit the gas, sometimes is seems like it is misfiring. It hesitates to go when I hit the gas. Other times it goes fine, but when the RPM's are over 3000 the car runs a lot better. Its pretty much when I shift to a gear and speed up early in the gear, thats when is misfires. When I leave the car sitting for a couple days or so and turn on the car black smoke comes out for a second. But if I were to turn it on everyday, everything is ok starts fine. Is that normal? Also the air comming out of the exhaust smellls like crap haha, I know its an old car but any solutions I am looking at getting some new ignition wires the ones on the car look horrible, also I bought a fuel pump havent installed it yet, hope it will help. Your suggestion will be of big help. Thanks -Arvin

Black smoke after the car been sitting for a couple of days, you got leaky injectors.

I have been having similar problems - drained my tank of all the reformulated gas and put in some 100% real gas and the problems got much better. A few more tanks of real gas and mine should be cleared up.

I had a very similar problem however maybe (or maybe not) a little less pronounced...it was solved today with a new Oxygen sensor from pelican parts. Try disconnecting your O2 sensor temporarily, if it solves it, you need a new one....

Arvin: The stalling when shifting in low RPM is mixture related. Before you go for a mix-adjust, set the valve clearance. Do a tune-up and keep a log. Valve adjust. (You'll need the special feeler gauge) Mixture adjust. (You'll need the 3mm Allen key) Timing. (You'll need a timing light) Of course, good plugs, ignition wires, cap & rotor is a must. Smoke on start-up after sitting for a few days is normal with these engines. A Bentley SC Repair Manual can be of help to learn more about CIS etc.

Blue smoke on start up is normal due to design of the engine, boxer configuration, but black smoke wouold indicate too much gas, which could be leaky injectors.
