3.6 converion vacuum lines

Today I took my 993 engine out of the car to take care of a crankshaft seal that was leaking. I would like to take advantage to clean some of the lines that I am not using.

I don't have a brake booster so I am not using the brake booster lines. My question is which of the lines on the pic can I delete? Can I also get rid of the vaccum canister. It seems that it is connected to the brake booster line also.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm not sure you can lose much as the engine is v-ram and probably needs the vac feeds for this to work.

In case you didnt know the middle pipe in the stack is the brake booster feed but seems like it joins the lower one to the left - this pipe wasnt on my car(non-vram) so assume this is needed for the v-ram so doubt you can remove much of this.

All the vac pipes were missing from my engine when I bought it, heres what I cobbled together as a minimum to get the brake booster feed:

I left the canister in place as the non-vram engines have a funny valve that is supposed to open at XRPM to release a few more ponies, the canister was connected to this so thought it might be useful.

any of our 3.6 guys can add a little bit more on this, please.

i recall seeing a picture of a 3.6 (993) engine that had all the brake booster lines deleted. I don't remember if it was a Vario, though.

Thanks

Mario I will try again.

It seems all the outputs on the rack on your engine are blanked so just work back slowly on each pipe and try to see if it is just feeding the blanked pipe(you can remove this and blank it at its exit) or used in a circuit/loop on the engine or intake(leave these alone as will most likley be needed).

I reckon you can trim quite a bit back if you just want to tidy things up - Perhaps Bill V might have a sneaky pic in his archives.

Good luck

OK, so I guess I can get rid of the brake booster gear, but what about the carbon canister?, I don't really know what its function is.... Can I also delete it?

Thanks

If you remove the vacuum canister, your Varioram will no longer operate. It's connected to your brake booster line to take advantage of the in-line vacuum check valve. If you remove the brake vacuum lines, you'll need to install a check valve in a dedicated vacuum line for the vacuum canister.
