Warm Up problem, help!!

what would you say if i told you when i start my car the "automatic choke" system is clearly functioning, but not long enough. it only remains at an elevated idle for about 20 seconds then drops to about 600 rpm for about 1-2 minutes then finally settles in at 1000 after that warm up period.

additionally, after my car has been warmed up completely and it is shut down for a short while after starting it back up it goes through that "low idle" period just as if were first started again. what do ya think?

MY CAR WAS HARD TO START WHEN HOT AND IT WOULD IDDLE LOW. I FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS RUNNING LEAN. AFTER ADJUSTING THE CAR MY HOT START AND IDDLE PROBLEM WAS GONE..

With CIS cars, the warmup regulator richens the mixture by reducing fuel pressure going into the top center of the fuel distributor, but this does not cause the high idle. the high idle is caused by the Auxiliary Air Regulator, which I believe is located over the #5 cylinder head. When cold it should be open, letting air pass between the two big hoses. After it has had voltage (the electrical plug may be tough to remove without breaking so let me know if you want to try to take this off) a metal valve blocks the passage. You can check this with a little mirror and a little flashlight.
