Carrera 3.2 fuel injectors cleaning

As a winter project...I am thinking about removing all the fuel injectors and carry out a cleaning task on them...After a 23 years service...they probably need it...has any one previously done the job before and give me some direction...Thanks

I think the best bet is to send them out to a service place that does this. If you do a search you should find some recommended places to send them that will do a good job.

I'm getting ready to do the same on my injectors. In fact I'm ready to ship them out today to cruzin performance (www.cruzinperformance.com) I must've gotten their name through this forum some time ago (no affiliation). From the website, it looks to be a well ran operation. I'll let you know how they turn out in a few weeks.

Carreru529,

Torrance is a lot closer to me

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of service did they do and how much did it cost?

RC charges $24 - $28.50 per injector, sounds pretty reasonable.

What symptoms would typically lead to the suspicion that the injectors need service ?

My car was feeling sluggish for a while, and I thought I had a tired motor.

I took it to Ruf (was living in Stuttgart at the time) and they suggested new injectors. The guy said they recommend them at 200,000km. I guess I could have searched for a place that would clean them, but the Germans don't seem to do those sorts of things like we do here.

Anyway, it made all the difference. He said the compression and leakdown numbers were great, so the injectors were to blame.

I finally got mine off to RC engineering today. Hopefully they can get the two stuck ones un-stuck.

I just checked with our host since I was thinking these were in the $75 range. Boy was I wrong...did the price go up or have they always been in the $145 range?

Highly regarded by the PNW locals.

They even provide before and after flow charts.

It is less expensive to clean than to buy. Anyone has a link for a good shop that do this in Canada...

Great thread, I'm thinking of doing this as well. How do they clean them? Is it possible to DIY? Any recommendations for a Chicago area shop that can do it?

Thanks,

I had mine done at Cruizin and was pleased. I think they were 12.00 each plus shipping and gives you access to an online report of the injectors. Look at the Cruizin website Cleaning process to see how they clean the injectors and all the parts they replace

In the Netherlands, neighbours of the Germans, it is quite common to clean instead of replacing regardless.

My trigger was that on cold start one cilinder was not joining the party for 100% (lower power and a sound like a 1962 VW beatle...).

Ultrasonic cleaning at a Bosch service shop (any shop that services fuel injection systems should be able to do the job) resulted in better running engine; symptoms completely gone.

It also eliminated the "searching" idle rpm that used to oscillate between 700 and 1400 rpm for a minute after cold start.

Low cost - large benefit exercise ( at 130.000 mls)

Any comments on the effectiveness of running through LubroMoly (sp?) or a couple of bottles of Techron?
