Diff Bearings
I know that there are mixed opinions about doing this, but has anyone changed the diff carrier bearings whilst the tranny is in situ ?

No, I haven't, and have never heard of anyone trying it, either! I have a strong feeling that changing those bearings would affect your ring & pinion 'backlash' setting, and that might not have good implications for the noise or wear aspects of the transaxle!
