16 x 8 Fuchs--again

I've researched this in the archives, and have reviewed Bill V's chart. Just want to confirm what I think I understand so that I don't make any costly mistakes.

I have the optional 16's on my car: 6" in front and 7" in back. It is my understanding that I can move the 7s to the front, that they are the correct offset for that switch, and that with the standard size front tires (off the 6s) there will be no rubbing issues. I also understand that if I want to put 8s on the rear they sould have a 10.6 mm offset, 112 mm backsize, 911.362.117.00.

Am I correct on all of this?

Don't want to beat the proverbial dead horse, just want to be sure.

Thanks.

yes, the stock rear 7x16 SC/Carrera rear Fuchs wheel(ET23.3) w/ the stock 205/55 x16 tire is a fairly safe and easy fit on the front of those same cars. The caveat is that they are all a little different and suspension settings like ride height and camber and even the tire profile can affect the fit. W/ that combo there willl be at worst a few simple tweeks that could be needed. Some cars will need no mods.

yes for the back 8x16(ET10.6) w/ 225/50 or 245/45 x16 tires fits w/o any issues at all, many want spacers w/ this wheel.

My choice would be a 9x16(ET15) w/ 245/45 tire, some even want spacers w/ that.

Hey, Bill, as long as we are on the subject, what excatly needs to be done to put 16x8 951 Fuchs on the front of 911 w/SC flares?
Thanks.

you need to run a lot of negative camber, use stiff sring rates, totally trim the fender lips, possibly pull the lips out, be careful w/ ride height and tire selection. Some use 225/45 instead of 225/50

This is pretty much of a track only setup.

To use an 8 you want more + o/s than the +23.3, I have +25 w/ the above mods and 235/40 tires, +30 is better as far as lips go, but worse wrt to the inner wall. Even the +23.3 can rub on the inner wall in a tight turn.

Tut:
7's in front with 205/55 and 8's in the rear with 225/50 is exactly what I did a couple years ago and I really like it.
The stock tires on wider rims have less bulge and fit nicely.
It fills out the wheel wells and pushes the wheels out by about 1 inch total.

Hey just wondering where are you getting your 8's? Are you getting them new or used.
Thanks.

Backspace measurement.....

Bill V.

I have saved the wheel fitment data you posted on the board awhile back. It's a very valuable information and I used it for reference. The table says that the backspace for 6",7", & 8" (911.362.xxx series) Fuch wheels is 112 mm. But when I measured my three (3) sets of wheel, they all measured at 121 mm.

Using 121 mm as backspace, the theoretical or calculated value I get is same as the ET(stamped) on the wheels. What the correct BS value? Thanks.

Bill,

Thanks for confirming things.

Gunter,

That's my plan, and for exactly the reasons that you state. I've been considering this for a while. I was in the Porsche corral at the vintage races at The Glen this past weekend and saw several cars with 7s and 8s. Liked the look.

svb,

Don't know where I'll get them. Probably won't do it 'til late winter or spring, unless I come across some at a great price. Folks here say that Jason Cullen would be a place to start

Indeed. This happened to me yesterday (see the pictures). I had no rubbing problems before but just changing the tire brand caused this kind of result. One ruined brand new Hankook R-S2 and bent fender lip...

I have 205/55/16 on 7" Fuchs, -1.7 camber and 25" ride height in front.

I you are wondering why the fender lip bent outwards like that, I lost it in one tight corner and needed a lot of opposite lock.

If you are refering to this diagram, it's not mine.

I am using it on my wheel page, it should be redone.

The data beneath it in the tables was collected by me. You will notice that some of the #'s for a given wheel vary, I used as many different data sets as I could and reported them as they were reported to me.

What size Fuchs and tire size where you running when you sliced your tire?

Oppps, just read this - "I have 205/55/16 on 7" Fuchs"

Unless you switched to these after the tire got sliced?

all depends on how low you want to go too - with 8" fronts you can't go to that slammed look -

I just switched to 7's in the front and 8's in the back ( with tire size mentioned ) and got some rubbing on the front making a right turn into a parking lot.
I also just did the suspension with E.R. equipment, alignment and corner balanced.

Very nice. Any rubbing issues? And where did you find the spacers?

pretty sure the spacers came from fvd no issues with rubbing - again, can't go to low. Front lips are rolled.

I knew there was some sort of misprint in that table. Many thanks to Mr. Bill V.
