Confused '72 T vs S

All right, I'm confused. I am looking into a rebuild when I do my clutch. Since I have about 130K on the engine (I think) and will have to replace my clutch I am thinking about a rebuild at that time. I will need to save $$ but am also considering an upgrade in performance. I look and Bruce Andersons book and it looks as if the big differences are the cams and valve sizes, but I assume the pistons are different. The specs show the same bore and stroke but I assume the pistons are different to get a different compression ratio. What axactly would I need to do to rebuild my T to S specs. Depending on prices I might just as well look for a good deal on a 3.0L and rebuild that before the clutch. I know I will get a great deal of advice and believe me it is appreciated.
Regards,

I'll agree that Bruce doesn't give away much info on converting to S specs. I suspect he doesn't have much interest in these older 911's as he usually is less than enthusiastic in his articles and just tells everyone to buy the latest model they can afford. It can't be too rare a conversion? The T has iron cylinders, so I suspect the most costly part of the conversion would be new pistons & cylinders, of which the best I can determine are the higher compression (but same bore) 2.2 S set. I'm interested in doing this conversion as well, so if anyone's done it, tell all....

Actually, for the amount of machine work, and parts outlay, it is only slightly more expensive to go all the way to RS 2.7 specs. All engines from 2.2 thru 2.7 used the same valve sizes, 46 mm intakes and 40 mm exhaust!

The only way it would be significantly cheaper would be to find used 'S' parts, then it would be no different than a top-end 'freshen-up' job.

The MFI 'T' parts needing modification are:

1. Cylinder Heads -- port enlargement
2. MFI injection pump -- new 'space cam' and recalibration
3. MFI throttle bodies and 'stacks' -- bore out

The MFI 'T' components needing replacement:

1. Camshafts
2. Cylinders & Pistons

The only additional changes required to go to RS 2.7 specs would be TimeSerts, and boring the crankcase 'spigots' from 92 mm to 97 mm for the 90 mm Nikasil cylinders of the RS 2.7!
