Aussie Porsches - "Speed on Tweed"

I thought I'd share some photos with you all from this weekend's "Speed on Tweed". Tweed refers to the Tweed River on which the little hamlet of Murwillumbah sits. They literally close the town and set up a race track through the streets for historic cars to do their thing

This is a relatively new motoring event modelled on the "Goodwood Festival of Speed". It was a great turnout despite some heavy rain preceeding the event and the resultant quagmire it caused

The Porsche Club of Queensland was given its own parking area to display our cars whilt we went off and watched the exotic and historic racing cars cutting laps of a street circuit.

Nice pics - thanks for sharing. Sounds like it was a great weekend. I really wanted to go, but had too many events to attend with my kids (one of which was my 6 year old daughter's gymnastics competition where she came 3rd overall with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd in individual events - can you tell I'm proud?!). Hopefully I can make it next year.

Thanks Ryan

The main reason I wasn't out there (which has been the same reason for the whole year), is that my 915 needs a rebuild and I'm saving for the stuff I need. I want a whole lot of Wevo

Also, Speed on Tweed is working very hard to get a broad card of cars and I think they had their full compliment of 911 and 356. It was great to see a real 356 Carrera GT and 718 RSK carving up the road!

There were some truly stunning and super rare non-porsche stuff such as Bugatti, Ford GT40 (real), Jaguar, Brabham, and custom specials with long racing pedigree.

PS - I hear your old Kremer is now in the club up here

Hey Bob

Murwillumbah is just south of the New South Wales and Queensland state border. It is in th hinterland of the Great Dividing Range about 30 miles inland of the beaches at Surfer's Paradise and Kingscliffe. It's a really pretty place with a lovely sleepy feel to it.

And some non-porsche classics...

A Gogomobil Dart... 500cc two-stroke

Bowell Nagari... Ford 302 engined.

Jaguar ??

GT40 on song

Elfin Mallalah

Matich A50 (I think)

Elfin MR8-C Formula 5000. This thing is a BRUTE

Matich SR3

And the only other car I'd consider swapping my 911 for... a Renault Alpine

I wonder if the yellow Carrera is Matt Holcomb's. I should have bought that car when he offered it up. Darn it!

Hi Dave

This was the first time I'd seen this car at a club meet... It certainly looked to be the real deal in Sahara Beige, I guess it could have been Matt's old car!

Yeah - the funny thing is Matt came out to L.A., and drove my car a bit through Hollywood. Mine looks much like his. I think it brought back for Matt, old memories. So much so, in fact, that he hinted at buying mine from me and shipping it back to Melbourne.

It's bizarre sometimes how small the world is.

When I was out in LA two years ago Jack Olsen had me out in BBII, I just couldn't seem to talk him into letting me take it back to Oz with me

He did let me drive the Jag through Hollywood though...
