Could my front end be too light?
I am back dating a SC. I put it on a strick diet partially for the back date purposes and partially to improve power to weight. Last night I was finishing removal of all A/C components in the front end. I also took my wiper washer equip. out. I then took my factory tool kit and tire out of the front. I put my wheel back on, lowered the car and went to do final torque of the lugs (w/o a actual torque wrench) and my tires actually wanted to rotate as I put weight on the breaker bar. I have never noticed it wanting to do this before and of course assumed MAN I AM REALLY CUTTING SOME WEIGHT ON THIS BABY. My garage floor is epoxy and pretty smooth but still. How much down force do you think I would have on my front tires and could I get so light that it would not respond to turning the wheel under some situations (you know like if you have ever ridden a 3 wheeled ATV on the road or under throttle and the front is so light you can just more the bars w/o it truing at all ((which probably lead to their discontinue).
PS.. on a side note. I can't believe how much road dirt my car acquired and carried around after 20+ years of use. I have literally liberated at least 35lbs of dirt from this vehicle. And, where was it being driven on the moon. The gravel/rocks I am finding are like moon rocks. Crazy. Thanks

Did this slippage happen equally on each front tire? Or just one side. One sidded would suggest your corner balance is way off.

Walt,
I actually only had the driver's side off b/c I was talking the wiper washer tanks and A/C stuff out so I didnt take the tire on the side of my oil cooler off but I can check it.

If you try to tighten the 3 o'clock lug nut with the wrench sicking straight out at 3 o'clock it would be more apt to spin than if you were tightening the 9 o'clock lug nut w/ the wrench straight out at 3 o'clock.
Did the wheel try to spin on all the lugs equally?

Matt, I think you are right. It was either the 2 or 3 o'clock lug.

Total weight you removed was most likely less then 40lbs, excluding tire. Shouldn't be a factor.
